1. Introduction: ONGC Apprentice Recruitment 2026
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has notified 3,047 apprenticeship seats under Advertisement No. ONGC/APPR/1/2026, dated 29 October 2026. Online applications are accepted from 29 October 2026 to 20 November 2026 through the Government of India's NAPS portal (for trade and non-engineering diploma/graduate disciplines) or the Ministry of Education's NATS portal (for graduate and diploma engineering-linked disciplines). There is no written exam and no interview — selection is based purely on marks in the qualifying examination, followed by document verification, with results scheduled for 15 December 2026.
The seats are spread across 25 work-centre tables in six sectors — Northern, Mumbai, Western, Eastern, Southern and Central — covering 42 trade and discipline variants under the Apprentices Act, 1961. Candidates who have passed Class 10, Class 12, an ITI trade, a three-year engineering diploma, or a graduate degree (B.A., B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, B.E./B.Tech) can apply, provided they are between 18 and 24 years of age on 29 November 2026 and are domiciled in, or studied in, an eligible district of the work centre they choose. Training lasts 12 months and carries a monthly stipend of ₹8,200 to ₹12,300 depending on qualification.
This cycle is larger than the previous one. The 2025 notification (ONGC/APPR/1/2025) opened with 2,623 seats, was later reported at 2,743 seats, and had its deadline extended from 6 November to 17 November 2025. The 2026 notification starts at 3,047 seats — roughly 300 more than the revised 2025 figure. The Western Sector alone accounts for 1,166 seats (38%), and the four busiest work centres — Nazira & Sivasagar, Ankleshwar, Ahmedabad and Mehsana — together hold 1,490 seats, nearly half the national total.
Editorial Note: The Vacancy Vedika editorial team verified every work-centre table in the official ONGC notification by adding each row against its printed sub-total. While doing so we found that the PDF's text layer merges page numbers into some table figures — for example, Hazira's sub-total of 138 can appear as "1383" and Karaikal's 2 Electrician seats as "210" when the text is copied. All figures in this article are taken from the verified, row-summed tables. We also found one genuine printing error: the Southern Sector total is printed as 269, but its four work-centre sub-totals add up to 267, which is the figure consistent with the grand total of 3,047. Always cross-check against the official notification before applying.
Each part of this recruitment has a dedicated deep-dive on Vacancy Vedika — vacancy breakdown, eligibility, age relaxation, stipend, selection process and the application walkthrough. Links appear at the end of each relevant section below.
2. About ONGC
ONGC is India's largest crude oil and natural gas producer and a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Its core business is exploration and production (E&P) of oil and gas, both onshore and offshore, in India and — through its overseas arm ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) — abroad.
The apprenticeship programme is run through ONGC's Skill Development Centres, which the notification lists under the Office of Head of Institute and Skill Development Centre at Delhi, Mumbai, Vadodara, Sivasagar and Chennai. Apprentices are placed at operational assets — drilling and production sites in Gujarat and Assam, offshore support bases around Mumbai, refineries and terminals such as Hazira and Uran, and regional offices — which is why the trade mix differs sharply from one work centre to the next.

3. Important Dates
The application window runs for 23 days, from 29 October 2026 to 20 November 2026, and ONGC has scheduled the result for 15 December 2026. Note that the eligibility cut-off date for age and for the three-year passing rule is 29 November 2026 — nine days after the application deadline — so calculate your age and passing date against 29 November, not against the last date of application.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Notification issued | 29 October 2026 |
| Online application opens (NAPS & NATS) | 29 October 2026 |
| Last date to apply | 20 November 2026 |
| Cut-off date for age and three-year passing rule | 29 November 2026 |
| Result / selection list | 15 December 2026 (tentative) |
| Document verification | To be intimated by email after result |
| Training duration | 12 months for all trades |
Deadline Alert: ONGC reserves the right to extend the deadline if applications are insufficient, and it did extend the 2025 cycle by 11 days. Do not plan around an extension — apply well before 20 November 2026, because NAPS and NATS profile approval can take time.
4. Vacancy Details — Sector, Trade & Work Centre
ONGC has notified 3,047 apprentice seats: 2,546 under NAPS and 501 under NATS. The Western Sector (Gujarat) holds the largest share with 1,166 seats, followed by the Eastern Sector (Assam) with 674. The notification does not publish a category-wise (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS) split; it states only that reservation for SC, ST, OBC, EWS and PwBD candidates will follow Government of India guidelines.
Sector-Wise Summary
| Sector | Work Centres | Seats | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Northern Sector | Dehradun, Delhi, Jodhpur, OVL Delhi | 191 | 6.3% |
| Mumbai Sector | Goa, Hazira, Mumbai, Nhava, Panvel, Uran | 482 | 15.8% |
| Western Sector | Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Cambay, Mehsana, Vadodara | 1166 | 38.3% |
| Eastern Sector | Jorhat, Nazira & Sivasagar, Silchar | 674 | 22.1% |
| Southern Sector | Chennai, Kakinada, Karaikal, Rajahmundry | 267 | 8.8% |
| Central Sector | Agartala, Bokaro, Kolkata | 267 | 8.8% |
| Grand Total | 3,047 | 100% | |
Southern Sector Correction: The official PDF prints the Southern Sector total as 269. The four work-centre sub-totals — Chennai 40, Kakinada 76, Karaikal 98 and Rajahmundry 53 — add up to 267, and only 267 reconciles with the printed grand total of 3,047. We use 267.

Fitter (393 seats) and Electrician (361 seats) are the two largest trades, together accounting for nearly a quarter of all seats. ITI-based trades dominate the list, but two graduate disciplines — Secretarial Office Assistant (any graduate, 262 seats) and Accounts Executive (B.Com, 119 seats) — also rank in the top ten.

Watch for Copied Figures: Some websites copy numbers straight from the PDF's text layer and publish figures such as Hazira 1,383, Mumbai Sector 4,824, Karaikal Electrician 210, Bokaro Mechanical Executive (Oil & Gas) 112 or Silchar Fitter 99. These are page numbers merged into table cells. The correct figures are Hazira 138, Mumbai Sector 482, Karaikal Electrician 2, Bokaro Mechanical Executive (Oil & Gas) 1 and Silchar Fitter 9.
All vacancies are tentative — ONGC may change trade-wise numbers as per requirement.
Planning which centre to target? Our ONGC Apprentice 2026 Vacancy Breakdown ranks all 25 work centres by seat count, maps each of the 42 trade variants across every location, and shows which centres offer your qualification with the fewest competing trades.5. Eligibility Criteria, NAPS/NATS Mapping & Domicile Rules
To apply, you need four things at once: the exact qualification for your chosen trade, an age between 18 and 24 years (with relaxation) on 29 November 2026, residence in — or a qualification from — an eligible district of your chosen work centre, and no previous apprenticeship or one-year-plus work experience after qualifying. Missing any one of these makes the application invalid, even if it is accepted by the portal.
Qualification by Education Level

Trade-Wise Qualification, Portal & Stipend Table
The scheme column tells you which portal to apply on. This is where most candidates slip: the five "Executive (Oil & Gas)" diploma trades are on NAPS, but Civil Executive (Diploma) is on NATS. Likewise, Store Keeper and Accounts Executive are NATS even though they are non-engineering graduate posts, while Secretarial Office Assistant and Executive HR are NAPS.

*ITI stipend depends on the duration of your ITI course: ₹9,600 for a one-year course and ₹10,560 for a two-year course. Check the duration printed on your NCVT/SCVT certificate. Highlighted rows are NATS disciplines that candidates commonly try to apply for on NAPS.
Trades Not Defined in the Qualification Table: Three listings in the vacancy tables have no matching row in the qualification table — Fire Safety Supervisor (Oil & Gas) at Ankleshwar (5 seats), Mechanic (Motor Vehicle) at Mumbai (2 seats), and the unsuffixed Civil Executive (Delhi, Mumbai) and Electronics Executive (Mumbai) seats. For these, check the qualification shown against ONGC's establishment listing on the NAPS or NATS portal before applying.
Domicile Rule: Eligible Districts for Each Work Centre
You can apply to a work centre only if you are a domicile of an eligible district, or you obtained your qualifying certificate from an institution in one. Either condition is enough — a Bihar resident who completed ITI in Ahmedabad can apply to Gujarat centres. Most centres accept any district of the state, but five centres restrict eligibility to specific districts.
| Work Centre | State(s) | Eligible Districts |
|---|---|---|
| Dehradun | Uttarakhand | All districts |
| Delhi | National Capital Region | All NCR districts |
| OVL Delhi | Not listed separately in Annexure-1 | Likely follows Delhi NCR — verify with ONGC |
| Jodhpur | Rajasthan | All districts |
| Goa | Goa | All districts |
| Hazira | Gujarat | Only Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Dang and Valsad |
| Mumbai | Maharashtra | All districts |
| Uran | Maharashtra | All districts (preference to Raigad) |
| Panvel | Maharashtra | All districts |
| Nhava | Maharashtra | All districts |
| Ahmedabad | Gujarat | All districts |
| Ankleshwar | Gujarat | All districts |
| Vadodara | Gujarat | All districts |
| Cambay | Gujarat | All districts |
| Mehsana | Gujarat | All districts |
| Bokaro | Jharkhand | Only Bokaro district |
| Jorhat | Assam | All districts |
| Nazira & Sivasagar | Assam | All districts |
| Silchar | Assam | All districts |
| Chennai | Tamil Nadu & Puducherry | All districts |
| Kakinada | Andhra Pradesh | All districts |
| Karaikal | Tamil Nadu + Puducherry | Only Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram (TN) and Karaikal (Puducherry) |
| Rajahmundry | Andhra Pradesh | Only Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari |
| Agartala | Tripura | All districts |
| Kolkata | West Bengal and Odisha | All districts |
Restricted Centres: Hazira (5 districts), Karaikal (9 Tamil Nadu districts plus Karaikal), Rajahmundry (3 districts) and Bokaro (1 district) have narrow domicile zones. A Hyderabad or Visakhapatnam candidate, for example, can apply to Kakinada (all Andhra Pradesh districts) but not to Rajahmundry unless they studied in Krishna, East Godavari or West Godavari.
Other Eligibility Conditions
- Qualifications from recognised boards only: ITI/vocational certificates from NCVT or SBTE-recognised institutions; degrees approved by UGC, AICTE or other statutory bodies. Qualifications through distance education are accepted.
- You must not have completed three years since passing your qualifying examination, counted on 29 November 2026.
- You must not have done, or be currently doing, an apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
- For technician (diploma) apprenticeship, one year or more of training or job experience after qualifying makes you ineligible.
- Apply for only one trade at one work centre.
6. Age Limit & Relaxation
General candidates must be at least 18 and not more than 24 years old on 29 November 2026 — that is, born between 29 November 2002 and 29 November 2008. The upper limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and up to 10 years for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities, with the PwBD relaxation stacking on top of the category relaxation.
| Category | Relaxation | Maximum Age on 29.11.2026 |
|---|---|---|
| General / EWS | Nil | 24 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 27 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 29 years |
| PwBD (General / EWS) | Up to 10 years | 34 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | Up to 13 years | 37 years |
| PwBD (SC / ST) | Up to 15 years | 39 years |
Pro Tip: Age relaxation does not relax the three-year passing rule. An SC candidate aged 28 is within the age limit but still ineligible if their qualifying result was declared more than three years before 29 November 2026. Check both conditions separately.
The notification does not mention any relaxation for ex-servicemen, J&K domicile or EWS candidates. EWS candidates follow the general age limit.
For the full category-wise date-of-birth ranges, the certificates ONGC will ask for at document verification, and how the three-year passing rule interacts with relaxed age limits, read our ONGC Apprentice 2026 Age Limit & Relaxation explainer.7. Stipend & Training Duration
ONGC apprentices receive a fixed monthly stipend between ₹8,200 and ₹12,300 for 12 months, depending on the qualification category, as prescribed under the Apprentices Act. Graduates earn the most (₹12,300); Class 10 and Class 12 pass trade apprentices earn the least (₹8,200).
Monthly Stipend Structure
| Apprentice Category | Monthly Stipend | Total Over 12 Months |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate | ₹12,300 | ₹1,47,600 |
| Three-year Diploma | ₹10,900 | ₹1,30,800 |
| ITI (two-year) | ₹10,560 | ₹1,26,720 |
| ITI (one-year) | ₹9,600 | ₹1,15,200 |
| Class 10 / 12 | ₹8,200 | ₹98,400 |
No Allowances: The stipend is the only payment. ONGC does not pay travel allowance, daily allowance, boarding or lodging, and gives no help with transport. Many seats are at field sites away from city centres, so budget for your own daily commute or accommodation. There is also no pension or NPS, since this is training, not employment.
Apprenticeship with ONGC does not guarantee a regular job. After the 12 months, apprentices are relieved from the work area, though the apprenticeship certificate under the Apprentices Act carries value in later PSU and private-sector hiring.
Want the category-wise 12-month earnings, how the stipend is credited during training, and how ONGC's rates compare with other PSU apprenticeships? Our ONGC Apprentice Stipend 2026 page covers it in full.8. Application Fee
The ONGC notification does not prescribe any application fee, and registration on both the NAPS and NATS portals is free. You should not pay anyone to "register" or "confirm" your ONGC apprenticeship seat.
| Category | Application Fee |
|---|---|
| General / EWS / OBC | Nil (none mentioned in notification) |
| SC / ST / PwBD | Nil |
| Female | Nil |
Fraud Warning: The notification bars canvassing of any kind and states that ONGC's decision on selection is final. Any person or agency asking for money to secure an ONGC apprenticeship is not authorised by ONGC. Report such approaches to ongc_skilldev@ongc.co.in.
9. Selection Process (Merit-Based, No Exam)
ONGC selects apprentices purely on the marks obtained in the qualifying examination — there is no written test, no interview and no skill test. Merit lists are drawn up separately for every trade at every work centre, so you compete only against applicants for the same trade at the same centre.
After the window closes, ONGC downloads all applications from both portals and sorts them by trade, qualification and work centre.
Each application is checked for qualification, age, applicable relaxation, scheme fit and domicile. Incomplete, duplicate or ineligible applications are rejected at this stage.
A separate merit list is prepared for each trade at each work centre, based on marks in the prescribed qualifying examination. If two candidates tie, the older candidate is ranked higher.
Candidates are shortlisted in a ratio decided by ONGC against the seats available. The list is published on the ONGC website and communicated by email. Shortlisting does not guarantee a seat.
Shortlisted candidates bring original certificates and self-attested copies to the notified venue. Any mismatch with the online application leads to cancellation.
The final list is prepared from verified candidates, trade-wise and centre-wise, applying the Government of India reservation roster and the tie-break rule.
Results are published on ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in, scheduled for 15 December 2026. Selected candidates complete the apprenticeship contract on the NAPS or NATS portal and report to their work centre.
Engagement is subject to being declared medically fit under the Apprentices Act. Seats left vacant by non-reporting candidates go to the next candidates in merit order.
Which Marks Count?
| Applying With | Marks Used for Merit |
|---|---|
| Class 10 / Class 12 | Board examination marks |
| ITI | ITI trade examination marks |
| Three-year Diploma | Diploma marks |
| Graduate degree (B.A./B.Com/B.Sc/BBA/B.E./B.Tech) | Degree marks |
The notification says that where different evaluation systems are involved (for example, CGPA versus percentage), marks will be considered according to the prescribed procedure. Enter your marks exactly as on your marksheet on the portal.
Pro Tip: Because merit is computed per trade per centre, a candidate with average marks can improve their chances by choosing a centre with more seats in their trade. For example, Fitter has 98 seats at Nazira & Sivasagar but only 2 at Karaikal and Kolkata — provided you meet the domicile rule for that centre.
10. How to Apply Online
Apply online only, between 29 October and 20 November 2026, on the NAPS portal for NAPS trades or the NATS portal for NATS trades. ONGC does not accept applications by post, by hand, or through its own website. Choose a single trade at a single work centre — if you apply to more than one, ONGC will allot at most one at its discretion.
Shortlist the trade that matches your qualification and a work centre whose district list covers your domicile or institute. Check the Scheme column — NAPS or NATS — because that decides the portal.
NAPS trades: register as a candidate at apprenticeshipindia.gov.in. NATS trades: register as a student at nats.education.gov.in. Use an email address and mobile number you check daily.
Fill in personal details, category, address, and qualification with marks exactly as on your certificates. Upload the documents the portal asks for. On NATS, wait for your enrolment to be approved before you can apply.
Search for Oil and Natural Gas Corporation on the portal, choose the listing for your work centre and trade, and click apply. Applications are accepted from 29 October 2026.
Download or take a screenshot of the application confirmation showing ONGC, the trade and the work centre. Keep your portal registration number handy for document verification.
After 20 November 2026, check your inbox, spam folder, and ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in regularly. Shortlisting and document verification notices arrive only by email and on the website.
| If Your Trade Is… | Apply On | Portal |
|---|---|---|
| Any ITI trade, Library Assistant, Fire Safety Technician/Supervisor | NAPS | apprenticeshipindia.gov.in |
| Executive (Oil & Gas) diploma trades, Executive HR, Executive Finance, Lab Chemist, Secretarial Office Assistant | NAPS | apprenticeshipindia.gov.in |
| Accounts Executive, Store Keeper, Petroleum Executive, all Executive (Graduate) engineering trades, Civil Executive (Diploma) | NATS | nats.education.gov.in |
Common Mistakes That Lead to Rejection
| Mistake | Consequence | How to Avoid It |
|---|---|---|
| Applying on NAPS for a NATS trade (or the reverse) | Application never reaches the correct ONGC listing | Match the Scheme column in the vacancy table before registering |
| Choosing a centre outside your domicile / study districts | Rejected at scrutiny | Check the eligible districts table, especially for Hazira, Karaikal, Rajahmundry and Bokaro |
| Applying with a Wireman certificate for Electrician | Rejected — explicitly not accepted | Apply only with an Electrician trade certificate |
| Qualifying result older than three years | Ineligible on 29 November 2026 | Check the result date on your marksheet; get a Principal's certificate if it is missing |
| Having done an earlier apprenticeship | Cancellation at document verification, or termination later | Do not apply if you have trained under the Apprentices Act before |
| Applying to several centres or trades | ONGC allots only one, at its own discretion | Apply to your single best-fit trade and centre |
| Marks entered differently from the marksheet | Mismatch at verification; candidature cancelled | Copy marks exactly, including CGPA where applicable |
11. Medical Fitness
Engagement as an ONGC apprentice is conditional on being declared medically fit under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and ONGC's own rules. The notification does not publish specific medical standards — such as vision or hearing thresholds — so these will be communicated with the offer of engagement.
Many ONGC work centres are active oilfields, drilling sites, gas processing plants and offshore support bases. Trades such as Fitter, Welder, Mechanic Diesel, Instrument Mechanic and Fire Safety Technician involve physical work in hot, noisy and hazardous areas. Candidates with conditions that could affect fieldwork should keep recent medical records ready and declare any disability truthfully if claiming PwBD benefits.
Note: PwBD candidates must produce a valid disability certificate at document verification. Age relaxation of up to 10 years (and up to 13 or 15 years in combination with OBC or SC/ST) is available only with this certificate.
12. General Instructions & Disqualifications
Your candidature remains provisional until your documents are verified, and ONGC can cancel it — or terminate an apprenticeship already under way — if false or suppressed information is found at any stage.
- Read the full notification before applying; the eligibility criteria and selection method are binding.
- Candidates who have already completed, or are undergoing, apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961, are not eligible.
- For technician apprenticeship, training or job experience of one year or more after the qualifying examination disqualifies you.
- Not more than three years should have passed since your qualifying examination on 29 November 2026. If the result date is not printed on your marksheet, obtain a certificate from your institute's Principal stating the date of result publication.
- ONGC has no obligation to offer regular employment during or after apprenticeship.
- Incomplete applications or those not meeting eligibility are treated as rejected.
- Canvassing in any form disqualifies the candidate.
- Terms and conditions are governed by the Apprentices Act, 1961, and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, as amended.
- ONGC may leave seats unfilled if suitable candidates are not available; this creates no claim for engagement.
- Corrigenda and updates will appear only on ongcindia.com, ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in and the NAPS/NATS portals.
