ONGC Apprentice 2026: Check District-Wise Eligibility & Work Centers
ONGC will only consider you for a work centre if your district is on its Annexure 1 list. That one page, more than marks or trade, decides where you can apply. Choose your state and district below. The checker applies Annexure 1 row by row and lists every work centre, trade and seat count open to you.
District-Wise Eligibility Checker
Every check runs in your browser. Data comes from ONGC Advt. No. ONGC/APPR/1/2026 dated 29.10.2026: seats on pp. 1–12, qualifications on pp. 13–14, Annexure 1 on p. 20.
The “or” in Annexure 1 that most applicants miss
Most summaries of this notification say “apply only from your home district”. That is not what Annexure 1 says. The note at the bottom of page 20 reads:
So there are two independent routes into a work centre:
- Domicile route: you are a resident of an eligible district.
- Qualification route: the ITI, diploma or degree that makes you eligible for the trade was obtained in an eligible district, wherever you live.
This matters most for people who travelled to study. A Bihar resident has no ONGC centre by domicile, but if they finished an ITI in Bokaro district they meet the Bokaro condition. Likewise, someone from Hyderabad who did a B.Tech in Tiruchirappalli meets the Karaikal condition. The checker handles this when you tick “different state or district”.
One caution: the word is essential qualification, meaning the one Para D asks for in your trade. A 10th certificate from a Karaikal school does not make a B.Com applicant from elsewhere eligible for Karaikal. Their B.Com does not come from that district.
How many seats your state can actually reach
We added up the seats at every work centre each state can reach through Annexure 1. The dark bar shows seats open to every district of the state. The light extension shows extra seats open only to the specific districts named in Annexure 1.
What the numbers tell you
- Gujarat alone holds 1,304 of 3,047 seats (about 43%). A resident of Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Dang or Valsad can choose from six centres. That is the widest choice anywhere in India under this notification.
- Assam has 674 seats spread over three centres, and Nazira & Sivasagar on its own (466) is the largest single work centre in the notification, ahead of Ankleshwar (392), Ahmedabad (331) and Mehsana (301).
- Rajasthan's state-wide route has just 5 seats (Jodhpur). For Alwar and Bharatpur, the NCR route to Delhi and OVL Delhi (48 seats) is about ten times bigger.
- In Jharkhand only Bokaro district has a route (33 seats). Ranchi, Dhanbad and every other district have none by domicile.
- Tamil Nadu and Puducherry get 40 seats state-wide (Chennai), but the nine delta and coastal districts on the Karaikal list unlock another 98, more than double.

Six Annexure 1 edge cases, and how we read them
1. OVL Delhi has seats but no Annexure row
The Northern Sector table lists 20 seats at OVL Delhi (ONGC Videsh). Annexure 1 has 24 rows, and OVL Delhi is not one of them. The checker treats it like Delhi (all NCR districts), because both are in Delhi. That is our inference, not ONGC's text, so confirm the location's district mapping on the NAPS portal before you choose it.
2. Andhra Pradesh's 2022 districts
Rajahmundry is limited to “Krishna, East Godavari and West Godavari”, which are pre-2022 names. Since April 2022, parts of these are in NTR, Eluru, Kakinada and Konaseema districts. The checker marks those as Grey area. In practice the risk is small: every AP district is eligible for Kakinada anyway, so no AP candidate is left without a centre.
3. “NCR” crosses state lines
The Delhi row reads “All districts under National Capital Region”, not “Delhi”. Under the NCR Planning Board, NCR includes 14 Haryana districts (Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Rohtak, Karnal and others), 8 UP districts (Noida/Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Meerut and others) and Alwar and Bharatpur in Rajasthan. The NCR list changes over time, so check the current one.
4. Puducherry's enclaves
Puducherry has four districts in three states' geography. Karaikal residents qualify for both Karaikal and Chennai. Mahe (inside Kerala) and Yanam (inside Andhra Pradesh) qualify for Chennai only. A Yanam resident does not get Rajahmundry or Kakinada just because they live inside the Godavari delta.
5. Uran's “preference to Raigad”
Uran is open to all Maharashtra districts, but Annexure 1 adds “preference will be given to Raigad District”. The notification does not say how that preference works (a separate quota, or a tie-breaker). Candidates from outside Raigad should not count on Uran's 69 seats as freely as on Mumbai's 200.
6. The Southern total doesn't add up
The notification prints the Southern Sector total as 269, but its own sub-totals (Chennai 40 + Kakinada 76 + Karaikal 98 + Rajahmundry 53) add up to 267. The grand total of 3,047 only works with 267, so the 269 looks like a typo. We use the sub-totals throughout.
Trades offered at only one or two work centres
Your trade can narrow your options more than your district does. For the trades below, only one or two centres in India have seats. If your district is not eligible for those centres, you have no route in that trade, even if your state has other ONGC centres.
| Trade | Only at (seats) | Qualification (Para D) |
|---|---|---|
| Civil Executive | Delhi (2), Mumbai (6) | Notification table does not say Graduate or Diploma — read the NATS listing |
| Computer Science Executive (Diploma) | Ankleshwar (1) | 3-year Diploma in the discipline |
| Electrical Executive (Diploma) | Ankleshwar (12) | 3-year Diploma in the discipline |
| Electronics & Telecom Executive (Diploma) | Ankleshwar (1) | 3-year Diploma in the discipline |
| Electronics Executive | Mumbai (10) | Degree in the engineering discipline (NATS) |
| Executive Finance (Oil & Gas) | Agartala (9) | B.Com |
| Fire Safety Supervisor (Oil & Gas) | Ankleshwar (5) | Not listed in Para D of the notification — confirm on the NAPS portal |
| Library Assistant | Ankleshwar (1), Nazira & Sivasagar (1) | Passed 10th class |
| Mechanic (Motor Vehicle) | Mumbai (2) | ITI in Mechanic Motor Vehicle |
| Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) | Ankleshwar (1) | ITI in Medical Laboratory Technician (Pathology) |
| Stenographer (English) | Mumbai (20), Ankleshwar (2) | ITI in Stenography (English) |
Two examples. A Stenographer (English) ITI holder from Assam has no seat at any Assam centre: the only stenography seats are in Mumbai (20) and Ankleshwar (2). A B.Com graduate in Tripura cannot be an Accounts Executive at Agartala, because Agartala has no Accounts Executive seats. They can apply for Executive Finance (Oil & Gas), which needs a B.Com and exists only at Agartala (9 seats).
The district is only the first filter
An eligible district puts you in the pool for a work centre. These conditions from the same notification then decide whether your application stands:
- Age: 18–24 years as on 29.11.2026 (born between 29.11.2002 and 29.11.2008). Upper-limit relaxation: SC/ST +5, OBC-NCL +3, PwBD +10 (SC/ST PwBD +15, OBC PwBD +13).
- 3-year window: you must not have completed three years after passing the qualifying exam as on 29.11.2026. If your marksheet shows no result date, carry a certificate from your institute's principal.
- No earlier apprenticeship under the Apprentices Act, 1961, and no training or job experience of one year or more after the qualification.
- Electrician trade: a Wireman certificate is explicitly not accepted.
- Portal: NAPS trades go through apprenticeshipindia.gov.in and NATS trades through nats.education.gov.in. Each trade's scheme is shown in the checker results.
- Selection is merit-based on marks in the qualifying exam, with the older candidate preferred in a tie. There is no written test.
Stipend you can expect
| Category | Qualification | Stipend / month |
|---|---|---|
| Graduate Apprentice | B.A. / B.Com / B.Sc / BBA / B.E. / B.Tech | ₹12,300 |
| Diploma Apprentice | 3-year Diploma in Engineering | ₹10,900 |
| Trade Apprentice | ITI (2-year trade) | ₹10,560 |
| Trade Apprentice | ITI (1-year trade) | ₹9,600 |
| Trade Apprentice | 10th / 12th | ₹8,200 |
ONGC pays no TA/DA, boarding or lodging. If you qualify for a centre through the qualification route and live far from it, you pay your own living costs for 12 months out of the stipend. Factor that in before you choose a distant centre over a smaller one near home.

Frequently asked questions
Can I apply to an ONGC work centre outside my home state?
Yes, if you obtained your essential qualification (ITI, diploma or degree) from an eligible district of that work centre. Annexure 1 treats a candidate as belonging to the operational area if he or she is a resident (domicile) of, or has obtained the essential qualification from, the listed district.
Which states have no ONGC apprentice seats in 2026?
No work centre is mapped to Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir or the North-Eastern states other than Assam and Tripura. Residents of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh qualify only from NCR districts (for Delhi), and Jharkhand residents only from Bokaro district.
Can every Gujarat resident apply for Hazira?
No. Hazira is limited to Surat, Navsari, Tapi, Dang and Valsad districts. Every other Gujarat district is eligible for Ahmedabad, Ankleshwar, Cambay, Mehsana and Vadodara, which together carry 1,166 seats.
Which districts are eligible for the Karaikal work centre?
In Tamil Nadu: Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur (Tanjore), Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Pudukkottai and Ramanathapuram. In Puducherry: Karaikal district only. All other Tamil Nadu and Puducherry districts are eligible for Chennai.
Is OVL Delhi listed in Annexure 1?
No. The notification lists 20 seats at OVL Delhi in the Northern Sector table, but Annexure 1 has no separate row for it. The closest reading is the Delhi row (all NCR districts). Confirm on the NAPS/NATS portal before applying.
What is the age limit for ONGC Apprentice 2026?
Minimum 18 and maximum 24 years as on 29.11.2026, i.e. born between 29.11.2002 and 29.11.2008. SC/ST get 5 years, OBC (NCL) 3 years and PwBD 10 years (15 for SC/ST PwBD, 13 for OBC PwBD) of upper age relaxation.
How many ONGC work centres can I apply to?
Para D, Note 1 says to apply under one sector, for a particular work centre, for one trade only. Para A adds that if you apply for more than one centre or trade, ONGC will allot only one at its discretion. Pick your strongest single option.
What is the last date for ONGC Apprentice 2026?
Applications opened on 29.10.2026 and close on 20.11.2026. ONGC lists the result/selection date as 15.12.2026.
Prepared by the Vacancy Vedika editorial team from the official ONGC notification (Advt. No. ONGC/APPR/1/2026). Seat numbers are tentative and ONGC may change them. Where we interpret the notification (OVL Delhi, post-2022 AP districts, NCR membership), the page says so. ONGC's corrigenda and portal listings take precedence over this page.
