TES-57 (July 2027 Course)

1. What Is Indian Army TES-57 and Who Is It For?

Indian Army TES-57 is the 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme course starting in July 2027. It offers 90 provisional seats to unmarried men who scored at least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12 and appeared in JEE (Main) 2026. Selected candidates train for four years, earn an engineering degree, and are commissioned as Lieutenants with a Permanent Commission. Applications are free and close at 12:00 noon on 12 November 2026.

Most TES coverage stops at the eligibility list. The Vacancy Vedika Editorial Team read both the English and Hindi notifications clause by clause and turned them into decisions a Class 12 student actually has to make. This guide includes:

  • Worked examples of the two-decimal PCM entry.
  • Exact birth-date boundaries for the age limit.
  • Your age at each rank if you commission in 2031.
  • The rupee cost of leaving training midway.
  • A list of avoidable mistakes that end candidatures.
  • The five places where the two language versions of the notification contradict each other.

Deadline Alert: The form closes at 12:00 noon on 12 November 2026, not at midnight. Questions sent through the website's Feedback/Query option are answered only if received by 9 November 2026. Settle any eligibility doubt before that date.

Editorial Note: This guide is based on the official bilingual TES-57 notification from the Directorate General of Recruiting. Where the English and Hindi texts differ, we follow the English text, which the notification says prevails. Figures marked as our calculation are worked out by us from the notification's own numbers and are illustrative. Always confirm on the official Join Indian Army website before you apply.

Key Takeaways

  • No written exam and no fee: JEE Main 2026 CRL decides shortlisting, and SSB marks alone decide final merit.
  • Eligible birth dates run from 01 January 2008 to 01 January 2011, both inclusive, with no category relaxation.
  • There is no stipend for the first three years. ₹56,100 per month starts only in the fourth year, at IMA Dehradun.
  • DigiLocker copies are not accepted at SSB unless your institution certifies them.
  • Being declared unfit in either TES or NDA medicals makes you unfit for both.

2. Who Conducts TES-57 and Where Is Training Held?

TES-57 is conducted by the Directorate General of Recruiting, part of the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army). Training is spread across four institutions:

  • Three years at a Cadets Training Wing: CME Pune, MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad.
  • One final year at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun.

The engineering degree is governed by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Ordinance.

Organization Profile

  • Recruiting Authority: Directorate General of Recruiting, IHQ of MoD (Army)
  • Entry: 10+2 Technical Entry Scheme, Course No. 57
  • Course Start: July 2027
  • Phase I (3 years): CTW at CME Pune, MCTE Mhow or MCEME Secunderabad
  • Phase II (1 year): Indian Military Academy, Dehradun
  • Degree Framework: JNU Ordinance
  • Outcome: Permanent Commission as Lieutenant

3. TES-57 Important Dates: How Much Time Is Left?

As of 3 November 2026, there are 9 days left to submit the TES-57 form and 6 days left to get a query answered. Every stage after the application window is listed as tentative in the notification.

MilestoneDate / TimingWhat You Should Do
Application opened14 October 2026, 12:00 noon—

Our calculation: if training runs on schedule without any relegation, TES-57 cadets would be commissioned around July 2031, four years after the course begins.

4. How Many Vacancies Are in TES-57?

TES-57 has 90 vacancies, and there is no category-wise reservation. All candidates compete on one merit list built from SSB marks. The figure is provisional: the notification ties it to training capacity at the Cadets Training Wings, and it can go up or down.

EntryOpen ForReservationVacancies
10+2 TES-57 (July 2027)Unmarried menNone (single merit list)90
Total (Provisional)90

Not everyone on the merit list who gets a joining letter actually reports. A selected candidate who does not report within 7 days of the allotted reporting date can lose his seat, and the next candidate in merit is upgraded. If you are recommended and medically fit but just outside the first 90, keep watching your registered email and the website.

We track how TES-57's 90 seats compare with earlier TES courses and how merit-list upgrades work in our Indian Army TES-57 Vacancy Breakdown 2026.

5. Who Is Eligible for Indian Army TES-57?

You are eligible for TES-57 only if you meet all of the following together:

  • Unmarried man.
  • Citizen of India or another qualifying nationality.
  • At least 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12.
  • Appeared in JEE (Main) 2026.
  • Born between 01 January 2008 and 01 January 2011.

A high JEE rank does not make up for failing any one of these.

Education

  • 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
  • Minimum 60% PCM aggregate, based on Class 12 marks only
  • Appeared in JEE (Main) 2026 — mandatory
  • Revised mark sheets issued after 12 November 2026 are not accepted

Nationality

  • Citizen of India
  • Subject of Nepal (Gorkha subjects need no eligibility certificate)
  • Person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle in India
  • Non-Gorkha Nepal subjects and migrants need a Government of India eligibility certificate before SSB results or joining

Marital Status

  • Open only to unmarried men
  • Undertaking not to marry until training ends
  • Marrying after the application date disqualifies you even if you are selected
  • Marrying during training leads to discharge and recovery of training cost

Conduct Record

  • Never debarred by UPSC from any examination
  • Never arrested or convicted, and not involved in any court case
  • Not previously withdrawn on disciplinary grounds from NDA, OTA, IMA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy or any service academy

Who should think twice before applying?

TES suits a candidate who is sure about a military career at 17–19. It is a poor fit in three situations:

  • You want a guaranteed engineering branch. The Army allots your training wing, and your preference is only an input.
  • You are unsure about committing four years. Leaving for personal reasons triggers recovery of training cost (see Section 17).
  • You plan to marry before about 2031. The marriage bar applies until training ends.
For the board-wise PCM rules, the Nepal-subject certificate process and the full disqualification list, see our Indian Army TES-57 Eligibility Criteria 2026 guide.

6. How to Calculate Your PCM Percentage for TES-57

Your TES-57 PCM percentage is your total marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in Class 12, divided by the maximum marks for those three subjects, multiplied by 100. You must enter it to exactly two decimal places without rounding. A wrong entry found at any stage cancels your candidature.

ExampleP + C + M MarksExact %Enter in FormEligible?
Candidate A78 + 64 + 71 = 213 / 30071.000…71.00Yes
Candidate B60 + 61 + 59 = 180 / 30060.000…60.00Yes (exactly 60%)
Candidate C61 + 58 + 60 = 179 / 30059.666…59.66 (not 59.67, not 60)No
Candidate D145 + 132 + 150 = 427 / 600 (subjects out of 200)71.166…71.16Yes

These examples are our illustrations, not official samples. Candidate C shows the trap. Rounding 59.666 up to 60 looks harmless, but the notification bars rounding and treats a false PCM entry as grounds for outright rejection. A candidate at 59.66% is simply ineligible.

How to handle board differences: The notification says only that the PCM percentage is calculated on Class 12 marks. It does not say whether practical marks count separately. Use the subject totals printed on your Class 12 mark sheet, which usually combine theory and practical. If your board reports subjects differently, raise a query before 9 November 2026 rather than guessing.

7. TES-57 Age Limit: Which Dates of Birth Qualify?

You qualify for TES-57 if your Class 10 certificate shows a birth date from 01 January 2008 to 01 January 2011, both days included. That works out to an age of 16½ to 19½ years on 01 July 2027. There is no age relaxation for OBC, SC, ST or EWS candidates.

Date of BirthAge on 01 July 2027Eligible?
31 December 200719 years 6 months + 1 dayNo (one day too old)
01 January 2008Exactly 19½ yearsYes (oldest eligible)
15 August 200917 years 10 monthsYes
01 January 2011Exactly 16½ yearsYes (youngest eligible)
02 January 201116½ years minus 1 dayNo (one day too young)

Only one proof counts: Your date of birth is taken solely from the Class 10 certificate issued by your board. Admit cards, mark sheets, transfer certificates and school-leaving certificates are not accepted, and a date once recorded cannot be changed later on any ground.

To see why TES has no category relaxation and to check your eligibility to the day, use our Indian Army TES-57 Age Limit and Relaxation 2026 ready reckoner.

8. What Is the Salary of an Indian Army TES Officer?

A TES officer is commissioned as a Lieutenant at Pay Level 10 (₹56,100–₹1,77,500) plus a Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month. The Army puts the total cost-to-company at about ₹17–18 lakh a year. Before commissioning, cadets earn nothing for three years, then a stipend of ₹56,100 per month during the fourth year at IMA Dehradun.

Pay Structure Across the TES Journey

Years 1–3 (CTW)
₹0 stipend
Year 4 Stipend (IMA)
₹56,100 PM
Year 4 after AGI Premium*
₹43,600 PM
Lieutenant Basic + MSP*
₹71,600 PM before DA
Official CTC Estimate
₹17–18 Lakh / Year
Dress Allowance
₹20,000 / Year

*Our calculations from the notification's figures. In Year 4, Gentlemen Cadets pay ₹12,500 a month towards Army Group Insurance, so ₹56,100 minus ₹12,500 leaves ₹43,600 before any other deductions. After commissioning, the Level 10 entry basic of ₹56,100 plus MSP of ₹15,500 gives a floor of ₹71,600 a month. Dearness Allowance, transport allowance and other entitlements are added on top, which is how the Army reaches its ₹17–18 lakh CTC estimate.

How old will you be at each rank?

Promotions up to Colonel (Time Scale) depend on years of reckonable commissioned service. The four training years do not count as commissioned service. The age range below is our projection for a TES-57 cadet commissioned in July 2031 with no relegation.

For an itemised in-hand estimate, how the ₹17–18 lakh CTC is built, and how pay changes from Captain to Major, read our Indian Army TES Lieutenant Salary 2026 breakdown.

9. Is There Any Fee for TES-57?

No. TES-57 charges no application fee to any category, and the online form has no payment step. Anyone asking for money to submit or confirm a TES form is not part of the official process.

Cost ItemAmount
Application fee (all categories)₹0
SSB travel, first attempt for this type of commissionAC 3-tier rail or bus fare, both ways, reimbursed
SSB travel, repeat attempt for the same type of commissionNot reimbursed

10. How Does the TES-57 Selection Process Work?

TES-57 selection has five stages: online application, shortlisting on the JEE Main 2026 CRL, a five-day SSB, a military medical examination, and a merit list based only on SSB marks. There is no written test conducted by the Army.

1
Online Application

Submit the form by noon on 12 November 2026 with your exact PCM percentage and JEE Main 2026 application number.

2
Shortlisting on JEE Main CRL

Army HQ sets a cut-off using the JEE Main Common Rank List and other parameters. Candidates above it are called for SSB.

3
Five-Day SSB

A Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer assess you over two stages. Those who do not clear Stage I return home the same day.

4
Medical Examination

Recommended candidates are examined at the nearest Military Hospital immediately after the SSB.

5
Merit List and Joining Letter

Medically fit candidates are ranked by SSB marks alone, and joining letters go out in merit order against the 90 vacancies.

What does not count: Your JEE rank gets you to the SSB but plays no part in final merit. NCC background, higher qualifications and past performance also carry no weight. Only SSB marks, medical fitness and seat availability decide the joining letters.

For what happens on each SSB day, how Stage I screening works, and how merit turns into joining letters, see our Indian Army TES-57 Selection Process 2026 guide.

11. How Is the TES-57 Shortlisting Cut-off Decided?

The TES-57 cut-off is set by Army Headquarters using the JEE Main 2026 Common Rank List and other parameters it does not publish. The notification gives no fixed rank or percentile. The cut-off is expected in the 4th week of November 2026, and no correspondence is entertained about it.

How do you get an SSB centre and date?

Under the English notification, which prevails, shortlisted candidates log in and choose their own SSB centre and date from open slots on a first-come, first-served basis. A slot cannot be changed by the candidate once booked. The Directorate keeps the right to change it in exceptional circumstances.

The practical point: candidates who log in late after the cut-off is published get whatever centre and date are left. Being able to book quickly may matter as much as your rank in deciding where and when you test.

SSB DetailWhat the Notification Says
Selection CentresPrayagraj (UP), Bhopal (MP), Bengaluru (Karnataka), Jalandhar (Punjab)
DurationUp to five days, in two stages
AssessorsPsychologist, Group Testing Officer, Interviewing Officer
Call-up letterRegistered email and SMS only
Request to change date or centreNot entertained or replied to
Injury during SSB testsNo compensation

Pro Tip: Use an email ID and mobile number in your form that you will check every day until March 2027. The call-up letter arrives only through these, and the notification offers no route to reschedule a missed SSB.

12. What Physical Standards Must You Meet on Joining?

There is no physical test at the TES SSB. Candidates who get joining letters must arrive at their Cadets Training Wing able to run 2.4 km in 10 minutes 30 seconds and do 40 push-ups and 6 pull-ups, along with the other standards below.

ActivityMinimum on ArrivalWhat It Means in Practice
2.4 km Run10 min 30 secAbout 4 min 22 sec per km (our calculation)
Push-ups40One continuous set
Pull-ups6Full hang to chin over bar
Sit-ups30—
Squats2 sets × 30—
Lunges2 sets × 10—
SwimmingKnow the fundamentalsLearn basic strokes before July 2027

The gap between the final merit list and joining is short, so start training now rather than after the SSB. Height, weight and tattoo rules are not printed in the TES notification. They follow the officer-entry medical standards and tattoo policy on the Join Indian Army website.

Pull-ups and the 2.4 km time trip up most new cadets. Our Indian Army TES Physical Standards 2026 page lays out a progressive training plan and the officer-entry height and weight guidance.

13. Which CTW and Engineering Branch Will You Get?

Your Cadets Training Wing decides both your engineering branch and, usually, your parent Corps. You must rank all three CTWs, but the Army makes the final allotment, so a TES candidate cannot be certain of a branch when applying.

Cadets Training WingCityEngineering StreamParent Corps
College of Military Engineering (CME)PuneCivil & MechanicalCorps of Engineers
Military College of Telecommunication Engineering (MCTE)MhowTelecom & IT (Dual Degree)Corps of Signals
Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME)SecunderabadElectronics & MechanicalCorps of EME

What are the rules for choosing a CTW?

  • Only SSB-recommended candidates fill in CTW choices, and all three must be filled with no repeats.
  • Choices cannot be changed once submitted.
  • The joining instructions state your final CTW, and no change is allowed after that.
  • You have no right of objection to the Arm or Service you are finally given.

What are the academic rules during the four years?

  • The engineering degree is awarded under the JNU Ordinance after all four years.
  • At most two relegations on academic grounds are allowed; a third means withdrawal from training.
  • The degree carries no ante-date seniority.
  • Selected candidates sign the same bonds as NDA cadets under Army Instruction 53/78.

14. How to Apply Online for TES-57: Step by Step

Apply for TES-57 online on joinindianarmy.nic.in before 12:00 noon on 12 November 2026. Submit only one application, and click Submit again every time you edit. Multiple applications cancel your candidature, and an edited form that is not resubmitted may not be saved.

1
Open the Portal

Go to joinindianarmy.nic.in, click Online Application and complete registration.

2
Fill in Personal and Contact Details

Use the name and date of birth exactly as on your Class 10 certificate, plus an email and phone you will monitor until March 2027.

3
Enter PCM and JEE Details

Type your Class 12 PCM percentage to two decimals without rounding, and add your JEE Main 2026 application number.

4

Employed candidates must give job details and confirm they have told their employer in writing.

5
Submit and Re-submit After Every Edit

Edits are allowed until the window closes, but each edit session must end with Submit. Look for the confirmation dialog box.

6
Print Two Copies With Roll Number

About 30 minutes after closing, download the form with your Roll Number. Self-attest one copy for the SSB and keep the other. Nothing is posted to the Army.

What documents should you carry to the SSB?

DigiLocker Is Not Enough: Paragraph 9.6 of the English notification rules out DigiLocker certificates as substitutes for originals. If your school or board issued only e-certificates, get a letter from the Principal or Registrar saying so, and carry a colour printout of the e-certificate authenticated by that institution.

Our Indian Army TES-57 How to Apply 2026 guide covers the form field by field and explains how to get a DigiLocker authentication letter from your school in time.

15. Which Mistakes Get TES-57 Candidates Rejected?

Most TES-57 rejections that the notification describes come from avoidable paperwork and declaration errors, not from performance. Each row below is tied to a specific clause of the notification.

MistakeConsequenceHow to Avoid It
Rounding PCM % up (e.g. 59.66 → 60)Rejection at any stage; candidature cancelledEnter two decimals exactly as calculated
Submitting more than one applicationCandidature cancelledEdit your single form instead of creating a new one

Reporting to the CTW more than 7 days lateSeat goes to the next candidate in meritPlan travel as soon as joining instructions arrive
Breaking discipline orders at any stageRemoval and debarment from future attemptsFollow all centre and academy instructions

Two more rules are easy to miss. Any change of postal address after submitting must be sent by post, quoting your Roll Number, name and course. Selection also stays provisional until civil, police and education authorities verify your antecedents.

16. How Does the TES–NDA Common Medical Rule Work?

If you have applied for both TES and NDA, you take the medical for whichever entry recommends you first. Being declared UNFIT in either one makes you UNFIT for both, with no representation allowed. Otherwise, TES medicals are done at the nearest Military Hospital right after the SSB, under the Army's officer-entry standards.

Your SituationWhat HappensOur Reading
Recommended for TES first, NDA SSB laterSeparate TES and NDA (Air Force/Navy) medicals; NDA medical begins only after a TES FIT resultIf NDA Army is your only NDA choice, the TES medical covers it
Recommended for NDA first, TES laterNo separate TES medical; NDA (Army) status applies; any ongoing SMB/AMB/RMB is completed, not repeatedYour NDA medical result decides TES too
UNFIT, or UNFIT in absence, in either entryUNFIT for both entriesNever skip a scheduled medical in either scheme
Earlier medical not disclosedCandidature cancelledDisclose every previous defence medical

Note: Medical board proceedings are confidential, and the Directorate General of Recruiting has no role in them. You must be willing to be examined by a board of male and/or female doctors.

17. What Does It Cost If You Leave TES Training?

A TES cadet who leaves training for personal reasons, or who marries during training, must repay the cost of training. The notification sets this at ₹13,940 per week (2021 rate, revised from time to time). By our calculation, that is roughly ₹7.2 lakh for every year spent at a CTW or IMA.

Exit PointWeeks of Training (approx.)Illustrative Recovery at ₹13,940/week*
After 6 months26≈ ₹3.6 lakh
After 1 year52≈ ₹7.2 lakh
After 2 years104≈ ₹14.5 lakh
After 3 years (end of CTW)156≈ ₹21.7 lakh

*Our arithmetic using the 2021 rate printed in the notification. The actual amount depends on the rate in force and the exact weeks you complete, so treat this as a scale of the commitment, not a bill.

What insurance cover do cadets get?

FeatureYears 1–3 (No Stipend)Year 4 (On Stipend)
Life cover₹30 lakh₹1.25 crore
Premium₹14,000 once, non-refundable₹12,500 per month, in advance
Extra premium per relegated term₹2,635—
Invalided out, 100% disability, no pension₹25 lakh₹25 lakh
Invalided out, 20% disability₹5 lakh (pro rata scale)₹5 lakh (pro rata scale)
Disability below 20%Ex-gratia ₹50,000 (Years 1–2) / ₹1 lakh (Year 3)Ex-gratia ₹50,000

No disability benefit or ex-gratia is paid if the disability comes from alcoholism, drug use or a condition that existed before enrolment. Cadets withdrawn on disciplinary grounds, expelled as undesirable, or leaving voluntarily are also excluded. The cadet scheme in Years 1–3 has no savings component.

Key Takeaways

  • Leaving after three years could mean repaying about ₹21.7 lakh at 2021 rates.
  • Insurance cover rises from ₹30 lakh to ₹1.25 crore once the stipend begins.
  • Voluntary exit removes both disability benefits and ex-gratia.

18. Where Do the English and Hindi Notifications Differ?

The TES-57 notification is printed in English and Hindi, and the two texts differ in at least five places. Note 8 of the notification says the English version prevails in any dispute, so candidates who read only the Hindi version may follow outdated or incomplete instructions.

19. Frequently Asked Questions

These are the questions TES-57 applicants ask most often. If yours is not answered here, check the official notification or the Join Indian Army website.

Indian Army TES-57 2026 — 90 Vacancies Apply Online

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The online application closes on 12 November 2026 at 12:00 noon, not at midnight. Queries sent through the Feedback/Query option are answered only if received by 9 November 2026, three days before closing.

Yes. Appearing in JEE (Main) 2026 is mandatory, and you must enter your JEE Main 2026 application number in the form. Shortlisting for the SSB is done on the basis of the JEE Main Common Rank List (CRL).

You need at least 60% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, calculated on Class 12 marks only. Enter the exact PCM percentage to two decimal places without rounding; any false entry leads to cancellation of candidature.

You must be between 16½ and 19½ years on 01 July 2027, which means born between 01 January 2008 and 01 January 2011 (both inclusive). There is no category-wise age relaxation.

No. TES-57 has no application fee for any category. First-time SSB candidates also get AC 3-tier rail or bus fare reimbursed, both ways.

No. The notification requires your exact Class 12 PCM percentage to two decimal places without rounding. For example, 179 out of 300 is 59.666…%, which must be entered as 59.66 and is below the 60% cut-off. A false PCM entry found at any stage leads to rejection and cancellation of candidature.

Under the English notification, which prevails, shortlisted candidates log in to joinindianarmy.nic.in and select an SSB centre and date on a first-come, first-served basis. The SSB centres are Prayagraj, Bhopal, Bengaluru and Jalandhar, and a selected slot cannot be changed by the candidate.

Cadets get no stipend for the first three years at the Cadets Training Wing. After completing three years, Gentlemen Cadets receive ₹56,100 per month during the final year at IMA Dehradun.

On commissioning as Lieutenant, pay is fixed at Level 10 (₹56,100–₹1,77,500) plus a Military Service Pay of ₹15,500 per month. The Army puts the approximate CTC at ₹17–18 lakh per year, excluding free medical cover and annual home-town travel.

It depends on your Cadets Training Wing: CME Pune offers Civil & Mechanical (Corps of Engineers), MCTE Mhow offers Telecom & IT dual degree (Corps of Signals), and MCEME Secunderabad offers Electronics & Mechanical (Corps of EME).
