1. What Is NLC India GET Recruitment 2026?
NLC India Limited is recruiting 143 Graduate Executive Trainees (GET) in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Mining engineering under Advertisement No. 10/2026, selecting candidates on GATE 2025 marks (80%) plus a personal interview (20%). Online applications run from 13 November 2026 to 14 December 2026 on nlcindia.in.
The posts are spread across four functional Areas — Thermal Power Stations (Area-1), Mines & Allied Services (Area-2), Renewable Energy, Projects & Planning (Area-3) and Services & Support (Area-4). This Area structure is the single most important thing to understand before applying, because each candidate may apply to only one Area, merit lists are drawn up separately for each Area, and a candidate cannot be moved to another Area later. Selected trainees join in the E-2 grade on a basic pay of ₹50,000 and are absorbed into E-3 at ₹60,000 basic after one year of training.
If you read another website that lists 145 posts including two Computer Science vacancies, that figure comes from the short notice released in September 2026. The detailed notification published by NLCIL lists only four disciplines and a grand total of 143 posts — there is no Computer Science or IT discipline in Advt. 10/2026. Every number in this guide has been checked against the detailed notification.
Editorial Note: This guide was prepared by the Vacancy Vedika editorial team directly from the official NLCIL detailed notification (Advt. No. 10/2026, six pages including Annexure-I). Where we add analysis — interview-call estimates, the Area-choice matrix, scoring examples — we label it as our interpretation. The official notification remains the final authority; verify any doubt by writing to the NLCIL recruitment helpdesk before you submit.
Key Takeaway: 143 posts, four disciplines, four Areas, one application per candidate. Only GATE 2025 counts — not GATE 2024 and not GATE 2026. Your degree must already be complete with at least 60% (50% for SC/ST) on 1 November 2026.
2. About NLC India Limited
NLC India Limited (NLCIL), formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation, is a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise headquartered in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, operating in lignite and coal mining, thermal power generation and renewable energy. The company reports a consolidated annual turnover of ₹17,490 crore for FY 2025-26, according to the recruitment notification.
For a GET candidate, the company's footprint matters more than its turnover, because it decides where you could be posted. The notification names Neyveli in Tamil Nadu, Barsingsar in Rajasthan, Talabira in Odisha and South Pachwara in Jharkhand, plus solar and wind sites in several states. It also covers two joint ventures: NTPL at Tuticorin (Tamil Nadu) and NUPPL at Ghatampur (Uttar Pradesh). Thermal plants (Area-1) sit in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh; mines (Area-2) are in Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha.

3. Important Dates: Why There Are Three Different Deadlines
The NLC GET 2026 application window opens at 10:00 AM on 13 November 2026, and new registrations close at 5:00 PM on 14 December 2026. Two later cut-offs exist, but they only help candidates who have already registered.
| Event | Date & Time | What It Means for You |
|---|---|---|
| Short notice released | 24 September 2026 | Early announcement; superseded by the detailed notification |
| Crucial date (eligibility, age, category) | 1 November 2026 | Degree, age and category status are judged on this date |
| Online registration opens | 13 November 2026, 10:00 AM | Portal goes live on nlcindia.in |
| Online registration closes | 14 December 2026, 5:00 PM | No new registrations after this time |
| Last time for online fee payment | 14 December 2026, 11:45 PM | Registered candidates get a 6-hour 45-minute buffer to pay |
| Last date for final submission | 16 December 2026, 5:00 PM | Only for those who registered and paid within the time limit |
| Interview / document verification | To be notified | Communicated by SMS and email only |
The practical reading of this schedule: registration is the hard gate. A candidate who registers at 4:55 PM on 14 December can still pay late that night and complete the form by 16 December, but a candidate who opens the portal at 5:01 PM on 14 December cannot apply at all. SBI e-Collect payments occasionally take time to reflect, so we suggest finishing payment at least one day before the deadline.
Deadline Alert: The 16 December extension is not an extension for new applicants. It exists only to let already-registered, already-paid candidates finish uploading documents and submit.
4. NLC GET 2026 Vacancy Details: Area-Wise and Category-Wise
Of the 143 posts, Mechanical has the most (66), followed by Electrical (44), Civil (23) and Mining (10). By Area, Area-1 (Thermal Power Stations) takes 80 posts — more than half the total — while Area-4 (Services & Support) has just 8.
Discipline × Area Matrix
| Discipline (GATE Code) | Area-1 Thermal | Area-2 Mines | Area-3 RE, Projects & Planning | Area-4 Services & Support | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical (ME) | 40 | 20 | 6 | – | 66 |
| Electrical (EE) | 30 | 5 | 5 | 4 | 44 |
| Civil (CE) | 10 | 2 | 7 | 4 | 23 |
| Mining (MN) | – | 10 | – | – | 10 |
| Total | 80 | 37 | 18 | 8 | 143 |
Full Category-Wise Breakdown (UR / EWS / OBC-NCL / SC / ST)
The table below rewrites the notification's 4-Area grid into one row per discipline-Area combination, which makes it easier to see exactly how many seats your category has in the Area you are considering.
| Discipline | Area | UR | EWS | OBC (NCL) | SC | ST | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical | Area-1 | 17 | 4 | 10 | 7 | 2 | 40 |
| Mechanical | Area-2 | 9 | 2 | 5 | 3 | 1 | 20 |
| Mechanical | Area-3 | 4 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 6 |
| Electrical | Area-1 | 17 | 3 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 30 |
| Electrical | Area-2 | 2 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 5 |
| Electrical | Area-3 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 5 |
| Electrical | Area-4 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 4 |
| Civil | Area-1 | 4 | 1 | 3 | 1 | 1 | 10 |
| Civil | Area-2 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | 0 | 2 |
| Civil | Area-3 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 1 | 7 |
| Civil | Area-4 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 4 |
| Mining | Area-2 | 6 | 1 | 2 | 1 | 0 | 10 |
| Grand Total | 68 | 13 | 34 | 20 | 8 | 143 | |
Three patterns stand out. First, Mechanical Area-1 alone (40 posts) is larger than every other Area except Area-2. Second, several cells hold zero seats for a category — for example, there is no ST seat in Mechanical Area-3 or Mining, and no SC or ST seat in Electrical Area-4. Third, Mining has no Area choice at all: all 10 Mining posts sit in Area-2. We explain what the zero-seat cells mean for your application in Section 11.
No Computer Science posts: The September short notice mentioned Computer Science/IT vacancies, but the detailed notification contains only ME, EE, CE and MN. CS/IT graduates should not apply under this advertisement.
5. PwBD Reservation: 23 Horizontal Slots, 19 Carried Forward
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (40% or more) have 23 horizontal reserved slots in this drive, and 19 of them are carried forward from NLCIL's earlier Advt. No. 19/2024. Horizontal reservation means a PwBD candidate selected under these slots is counted within his or her own vertical category (UR, OBC, SC and so on), not on top of it.
| Discipline & Area | PwBD Slots | Of Which Carried Forward | Disability Groups Covered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical – Area-1 | 8 | 7 | D/HH (3); OA, OL, LC, Dw, AAV (1); SLD, MI or multiple (4) |
| Mechanical – Area-3 | 1 | 1 | SLD, MI or multiple disability |
| Electrical – Area-1 | 6 | 5 | D/HH (2); OL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV (2); ASD(M), SLD, MI or multiple (2) |
| Electrical – Area-3 | 2 | 2 | D/HH (1); ASD(M), SLD, MI or multiple (1) |
| Civil – Area-1 | 3 | 2 | D/HH (1); SLD, MI or multiple (2) |
| Civil – Area-3 | 2 | 1 | D/HH (1); SLD, MI or multiple (1) |
| Civil – Area-4 | 1 | 1 | OA, OL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV |
| Area-2 (all disciplines) & Mining | 0 | – | Not identified as suitable for PwBD |
| Total | 23 | 19 |
The high carry-forward share suggests that many PwBD slots in the previous drive went unfilled — our inference, not a statement in the notification. The rule for carried-forward slots is specific: if no candidate from the named disability group qualifies, NLCIL may interchange among other identified suitable disabilities; if still no suitable PwBD candidate is found, the slot reverts to a non-PwBD candidate as per Government of India rules.
Annexure-I lists the disabilities identified as suitable. Mechanical covers D, HH, OA, OL, LC, Dw, AAV, SLD and MI; Electrical covers D, HH, OL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV, ASD (Mild), SLD and MI; Civil covers D, HH, OA, OL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV, SLD and MI. Mining is marked "None", and the whole of Area-2 is excluded from PwBD identification. A PwBD candidate may also apply as a general candidate where a post has no PwBD reservation, provided the post is identified as suitable for that disability.
Abbreviations: D = Deaf, HH = Hard of Hearing, OA = One Arm, OL = One Leg, CP = Cerebral Palsy, LC = Leprosy Cured, Dw = Dwarfism, AAV = Acid Attack Victim, ASD (M) = Autism Spectrum Disorder (Mild), SLD = Specific Learning Disability, MI = Mental Illness.
6. NLC GET 2026 Eligibility Criteria: Degree, Marks and GATE 2025
To be eligible, a candidate must hold a completed bachelor's degree in the matching engineering branch with at least 60% marks (50% for SC/ST) as on 1 November 2026, and must have appeared and qualified in GATE 2025 in the same discipline code. Only Indian nationals may apply.

Five Eligibility Traps Most Candidates Miss
| Rule in the Notification | What It Means in Practice |
|---|---|
| Qualification must be passed as on the crucial date (1 November 2026) | Final-year students cannot apply. Your result must already be declared by 1 November 2026. |
| Rounding of percentage is not allowed | 59.99% is treated as below 60%. Aggregate of all years/semesters is used, not the final year alone. |
| CGPA must be converted to the exact equivalent percentage | The notification's own example: 6.0 on a 10-point scale = 60%. Keep your university's conversion rule document ready if it differs. |
| "Equivalent" qualifications and branch combinations are not considered | A degree outside the listed branch names (for example, Mechatronics or Production alone) may be rejected. |
| Only GATE 2025 marks are valid | A GATE 2026 or GATE 2024 scorecard will not work, even in the same paper. |
Two further conditions apply to reserved-category candidates. The minimum-marks relaxation (50% instead of 60%) applies only to SC/ST candidates competing for SC/ST seats. If an OBC, SC, ST or EWS candidate is considered against an unreserved seat, the general standard applies and no relaxation except the fee concession is given. Degrees must come from an Indian university or institute recognised by the UGC or AICTE, or another appropriate statutory authority.
Branch name matters: The notification rejects degrees "regarded as equivalent". If your degree certificate reads differently from the listed branch names, write to the helpdesk with a scan of your degree before paying the fee.
7. NLC GET 2026 Age Limit and Relaxation
The upper age limit is 30 years for UR/EWS, 33 for OBC (NCL) and 35 for SC/ST, calculated as on 1 November 2026. No lower age limit is stated in the notification. Whatever relaxation applies, the absolute ceiling is 58 years.
| Category | Relaxation | Maximum Age (as on 01-11-2026) |
|---|---|---|
| UR / EWS | – | 30 years |
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | 3 years | 33 years |
| SC / ST | 5 years | 35 years |
| PwBD (UR/EWS) | 10 years | 40 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | 13 years | 43 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | 15 years | 45 years |
| Ex-Servicemen | As per Government of India rules | Subject to the 58-year ceiling |
OBC candidates in the creamy layer receive no OBC benefit and must register as UR, which also means the 30-year limit applies to them. Age relaxation is not available to a reserved-category candidate who is being considered against an unreserved seat under the general standard.
Our NLC GET 2026 age relaxation guide works through the Ex-Servicemen formula, combined PwBD-plus-category cases, and the certificate dates that decide whether a relaxation claim survives document verification.8. NLC GET Salary 2026: Training Pay, CTC and E-3 Absorption
During the one-year training, a GET receives a basic pay of ₹50,000 per month in the E-2 grade (₹50,000–1,60,000), plus Dearness Allowance and a Common Allowance of 35% of basic. NLCIL puts the approximate annual CTC at ₹14.50 lakh. After training, the trainee moves to E-3 (₹60,000–1,80,000) with a basic of ₹60,000.
Pay Structure
What the ₹14.50 Lakh CTC Does and Does Not Include
| Component | During Training (E-2) | After Absorption (E-3) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic pay | ₹50,000 | ₹60,000 |
| Dearness Allowance | Applicable rate (IDA pattern) | Applicable rate (IDA pattern) |
| Common Allowance | 35% of basic | As per company rules |
| Performance Related Pay | Annually, over and above CTC | Annually |
| Superannuation benefits | – | 30% of (Basic + DA) |
| Medical cover | Self and dependants, per rules | Self and dependants, per rules |
| Group insurance | As per rules | As per rules |
| Housing | Unfurnished township quarters at standard rent, subject to availability | Same |
The fixed portion you can calculate today is ₹67,500 a month (₹50,000 basic plus ₹17,500 Common Allowance). Dearness Allowance is added on top at the rate in force — CPSE executives on the IDA pattern have DA revised quarterly by the Department of Public Enterprises, so check the current rate before estimating take-home pay. Income tax and contributions are then deducted. The ₹14.50 lakh figure is the notification's approximate annual cost-to-company, not in-hand pay.
Note: Performance Related Pay, medical treatment and group insurance are stated to be in addition to the ₹14.50 lakh CTC. The 20% basic-pay jump from E-2 to E-3 takes effect only after successful completion of training.
9. NLC GET 2026 Application Fee
UR, EWS and OBC (NCL) candidates pay ₹854; SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates pay ₹354. Reserved candidates are exempt from the application fee but not from the processing fee — a point many summaries get wrong.
| Category | Application Fee | Processing Fee (₹300 + 18% GST) | Total Payable |
|---|---|---|---|
| UR / EWS / OBC (NCL) | ₹500 | ₹354 | ₹854 |
| SC / ST / PwBD / Ex-Servicemen | Exempted | ₹354 | ₹354 |
Payment is made online through the State Bank of India e-Collect facility. Bank service charges are extra, and the fee is non-refundable in all circumstances — including if you later find you were ineligible. Detailed payment instructions appear on the login page of the NLCIL application portal.
10. NLC GET Selection Process: How the 80:20 Score Works
Final selection is based on 100 marks: 80 from GATE 2025 and 20 from a personal interview. There is no separate written test, group discussion or physical test. Candidates are shortlisted for interview in a ratio of 1:6 (or 1:10, as the case may be) against vacancies, separately for each Area.
NLCIL ranks applicants by GATE 2025 marks out of 100, separately for Area-1, Area-2, Area-3 and Area-4, with category-wise reservation, and calls six or ten candidates per vacancy.
Shortlisted candidates bring originals plus the printed application. Anyone who cannot produce a required certificate is not allowed into the interview.
Interviewed candidates receive second-class sleeper train or bus fare from their communication address by the shortest route, on producing tickets.
Merit is prepared Area-wise and category-wise. Ties at the cut-off are broken first by age — the older candidate ranks higher — and then by alphabetical order of first name.
Provisionally selected candidates are examined by the company's medical officer against NLCIL health standards. The offer of appointment follows only after medical fitness is confirmed.
Worked Example: How Much Is One Interview Mark Worth?
Because GATE marks out of 100 are scaled to 80, every GATE mark is worth 0.8 final marks, while every interview mark is worth a full mark. In other words, one interview mark equals 1.25 GATE marks in the final list. Note that NLCIL's notification refers to GATE marks out of 100, not the GATE score out of 1000 — so the marks figure on your scorecard is the one to watch.
| Candidate | GATE 2025 Marks (/100) | Scaled to 80 | Interview (/20) | Final (/100) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Candidate A | 70.00 | 56.00 | 11 | 67.00 |
| Candidate B | 65.00 | 52.00 | 16 | 68.00 |
| Candidate C | 62.50 | 50.00 | 17 | 67.00 |
In this illustration, Candidate B overtakes a candidate who was five GATE marks ahead, purely through a stronger interview. Candidates A and C tie at 67.00; if that tie falls at the cut-off, the older of the two is placed higher. The example uses invented numbers to show the arithmetic — it is not a cut-off prediction. NLCIL does not publish expected cut-offs in the notification.
Estimated Interview Calls per Area
| Area | Vacancies | At 1:6 | At 1:10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area-1 (Thermal) | 80 | ~480 | ~800 |
| Area-2 (Mines & Allied) | 37 | ~222 | ~370 |
| Area-3 (RE, Projects & Planning) | 18 | ~108 | ~180 |
| Area-4 (Services & Support) | 8 | ~48 | ~80 |
| Total | 143 | ~858 | ~1,430 |
These are our arithmetic estimates from the stated ratios. Actual calls are made category-wise within each discipline, so a cell with one vacancy may call 6 or 10 people for that single seat.
To see how NLCIL builds the four independent merit lists, how document verification can end your candidacy before the interview, and what the interview panel typically probes, read our NLC GET 2026 selection process guide.11. Which Area Should You Choose for NLC GET 2026?
Choose the Area where your category has the most seats in your discipline, provided you are willing to work in that kind of operation. The decision is irreversible: one application per candidate, no change after submission, and if you submit more than once only the latest application counts.
Shortlisting and final merit are prepared independently for each Area, and a candidate who applied for one Area "shall not have any right" to be selected in another. A strong GATE score in a crowded Area therefore cannot be transferred to a quieter one after results. The matrix below shows, for each discipline, how many seats each category actually has in each Area.
Seats by Category: Where Your Application Has a Reserved Seat
| Discipline | Category | Area-1 | Area-2 | Area-3 | Area-4 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mechanical | UR | 17 | 9 | 4 | – |
| EWS | 4 | 2 | 0 | – | |
| OBC (NCL) | 10 | 5 | 1 | – | |
| SC | 7 | 3 | 1 | – | |
| ST | 2 | 1 | 0 | – | |
| Electrical | UR | 17 | 2 | 2 | 3 |
| EWS | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
| OBC (NCL) | 6 | 1 | 1 | 1 | |
| SC | 3 | 1 | 1 | 0 | |
| ST | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
| Civil | UR | 4 | 1 | 2 | 1 |
| EWS | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
| OBC (NCL) | 3 | 1 | 2 | 1 | |
| SC | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 | |
| ST | 1 | 0 | 1 | 1 |
How to Read the Zero Cells
A zero means your category has no reserved seat in that Area. You may still apply there, but you will compete only for the UR seats — and on UR seats, NLCIL applies the general standard with no relaxation in marks or age (only the fee concession survives). An SC candidate in Electrical who picks Area-4, for instance, competes for the 3 UR seats against the full general merit list instead of having an SC seat. The same applies to EWS candidates in Mechanical Area-3, Electrical Area-2 and Area-4, and Civil Area-2 and Area-4.
Fit Matters as Much as Seat Count
| Area | Type of Work | Location Spread | Suits Candidates Who… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area-1 | Thermal power station operations and maintenance | Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (incl. NTPL, NUPPL) | Want plant O&M experience and the largest seat pool |
| Area-2 | Lignite/coal mines and allied services | Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha | Accept remote mine sites; Mining graduates have no other option |
| Area-3 | Renewable energy, projects and planning | Solar and wind sites across various states | Prefer project execution and renewable-energy work |
| Area-4 | Services and support functions | Various states | Electrical or Civil candidates interested in support/services roles |
Pro Tip: A larger seat count also attracts more applicants, so fewer seats does not automatically mean worse odds. Use the matrix to avoid Areas where your category has no seat, then choose among the remaining Areas based on the work you actually want — you are locked in for at least three years after joining.
12. How to Apply for NLC GET 2026 Online
Applications are accepted only online through nlcindia.in between 13 November and 14 December 2026. Registration uses your GATE 2025 registration number, so keep your GATE login details handy. No paper application or hard copy should be posted to NLCIL.
Keep an active personal email ID and mobile number for the entire selection period — NLCIL communicates only by SMS and email. Scan all documents in the sizes listed in Section 13.
Open the Careers section of the NLCIL website and register using your GATE 2025 registration number, name, email ID and mobile number. Only one registration is allowed per candidate.
Select one Area and enter personal data, educational qualification, age and category. The Area and category cannot be changed after submission.
Use the View Document option to confirm every upload is legible. Multi-page documents must be merged into a single PDF in chronological order.
Pay ₹854 or ₹354 through the SBI e-Collect facility linked from the portal, before 11:45 PM on 14 December 2026.
Submit by 5:00 PM on 16 December 2026 and print the registration-cum-application form. You must carry this printout with self-attested copies at document verification.
Warning: Shortlisting is done solely on what you enter and upload. A wrong category, an illegible marksheet or a missing certificate is not corrected later — the application is simply rejected.
13. Documents Required and Upload Specifications
Twelve documents are needed at application and again in original at document verification. Failure to produce any required document at any stage leads to summary rejection, so collect them before 13 November 2026.
| # | Document | File Type | Max Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Passport-size colour photo, 3.5 cm × 4.5 cm, professional studio, taken after 1 March 2026 | JPEG | 50 KB |

Certificate Date Rules That Catch Reserved-Category Candidates
| Certificate | Required Format | Date Rule at Document Verification |
|---|---|---|
| OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) | Central Government format per DoPT OM No. 36036/2/2013-Estt.(Res.) dated 30-05-2014 | Issued on or after 1 April 2026 |
| EWS Income & Asset | Format per DoPT OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt.(Res.) dated 31-01-2019 | Issued on or after 1 April 2026 |
| SC / ST | Government of India prescribed format | Valid certificate from competent authority |
| PwBD | UDID card or certificate under the RPwD Act, 2016 | Subject to verification or re-verification |
| NOC (serving PSU/Government employees) | From current employer | Must be produced at document verification |
A state-format OBC certificate is a common rejection reason in central PSU recruitment — the notification specifically requires the central format. Certificates issued in a regional language need a self-certified English translation. Prescribed certificate formats can be downloaded from the "Forms" tab on the NLCIL careers page.
Single-PDF overwrite rule: For items 5 to 8, uploading a second PDF replaces the first — only the last uploaded file is saved. Merge all pages of each item into one PDF, arranged chronologically, before uploading.
14. Service Bond, Posting Rules and Medical Fitness
Every selected GET must sign a service agreement bond of ₹3,00,000 to serve NLCIL for at least three years after completing training. Combined with the one-year training period, that is a commitment of roughly four years from the date of joining.
| Condition | Detail |
|---|---|
| Service bond | ₹3 lakh; minimum three years of service after one-year training |
| Bond transfer for serving employees | Central/State PSU and Government employees who produce an NOC at verification may opt to transfer their existing bond after joining |
| Posting | Any location under NLCIL within the Area applied for, based on organisational needs |
| Transfer requests | Not permitted to another plant, unit or office for the first three years from joining |
| Medical examination | Pre-employment medical by NLCIL's medical officer against company health standards |
