1. Introduction — What Is the WAPCOS Power T&D and Solar Experts Recruitment 2026?

WAPCOS Limited is engaging 29 experts on a project-term basis for power transmission, distribution and solar projects — 11 seats for projects in India and 18 seats for overseas projects in Africa — under Advertisement No. 5/226/Power/T&D dated 23 October 2026. Candidates must email a CV in the WAPCOS format to tdp@wapcos.co.in on or before 7 November 2026. There is no written exam, no published pay scale and no application fee; selection rests on how well your documented experience matches each post.

This is not a mass recruitment. Most of the 26 distinct posts carry a single seat and demand between 10 and 15 years of narrowly defined experience — transmission lines of a particular voltage class, solar plants of a minimum size, projects funded by multilateral lenders, or work in Portuguese-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa. At the same time, three posts need only 2 years of experience and are open to M.Sc., B.Com. and general graduates, which most coverage of this drive overlooks.

This guide is built to answer the question applicants actually face: "Out of 26 posts, which ones do I genuinely qualify for, and how do I send a CV that will not be rejected on format?" It decodes the technical and French-origin terminology in the overseas posts, lays out an experience ladder across all posts, and flags the date and document traps hidden in the terms and conditions.

Editorial Note: This article is prepared by the Vacancy Vedika Editorial Team from the official WAPCOS notification No. 5/226/Power/T&D dated 23.10.2026. Where we interpret the notification (for example, the likely funding or language context of a project group), we say so clearly. Always cross-check eligibility against the official advertisement on the WAPCOS careers page before sending your CV.

Correction Alert: Several job portals describe this drive as an "online application." The official notification asks only for a CV sent by email in the prescribed WAPCOS format. It does not mention any online portal, OTP login or registration system for this advertisement.

2. About WAPCOS Limited

WAPCOS Limited (formerly Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited) is a central public sector enterprise wholly owned by the Government of India under the administrative control of the Ministry of Jal Shakti. It holds Schedule B Category-I Mini Ratna status from the Department of Public Enterprises and was incorporated on 26 June 1969.

WAPCOS works as an engineering consultant and project management consultant (PMC) across three sectors — water resources, power, and infrastructure — and reports having delivered consultancy assignments in more than 75 countries, with a long track record in South Asia and Africa. That PMC role matters for applicants: several posts in this advertisement require prior experience "under PMC services/consultant", because WAPCOS staff on these projects supervise contractors on behalf of a client rather than build the assets themselves.

3. Important Dates and the Experience Cut-Off Trap

The CV deadline for the WAPCOS Power T&D experts drive is 7 November 2026, but age and experience are both measured on an earlier date — 1 October 2026. Any experience you gained between 1 October and 7 November 2026 does not count towards the minimum years required.

Pro Tip: If a post requires "10 years" and you crossed the 10-year mark in mid-October 2026, you do not qualify for this advertisement. Calculate your experience in your CV explicitly "as on 01.10.2026" so the screener does not have to do the arithmetic.

4. WAPCOS Vacancy Details 2026 — India and Africa

WAPCOS has advertised 29 seats across 26 posts: 9 posts (11 seats) for Indian projects and 17 posts (18 seats) for overseas projects in the Africa region. Only two posts have more than one seat — Environmental Investigation Officer (3) in India and Distribution Protection and Control Design Engineer (2) in Africa. The notification states that the number of posts is variable and depends on project requirements.

Same Title, Different Job: The advertisement has two "Transmission Expert" posts and two "Project Manager" posts. The Indian Transmission Expert needs 220 kV experience; the overseas one needs 132 kV and above plus three similar projects in the last ten years. The two overseas Project Managers have entirely different profiles — only the second requires Portuguese and IFI-funded turnkey experience. Always write the S. No., post name and project (India/Overseas) in your email subject.

We have prepared a WAPCOS Power T&D Vacancy Breakdown 2026 that groups all 29 seats by discipline, project cluster and experience band, so you can see at a glance where engineers, environment specialists and support staff each stand.

5. Eligibility for Indian Project Posts

Eligibility for the nine Indian project posts combines a specific degree with a minimum number of years in power transmission and distribution work. The senior posts add two recurring filters: experience under PMC services or with a consultant, and experience on externally aided projects funded by multilateral development banks (MDBs). In our reading, the repeated MDB and safeguard language suggests these Indian roles support an externally funded transmission programme, which is why policy familiarity with lender requirements carries so much weight.

Transmission Expert (India)

  • B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years planning, designing, managing, QA and supervision of transmission lines of at least 220 kV
  • 10+ years in transmission line survey at 220 kV or above
  • Minimum 3 years working under PMC services or a consultant
  • Preferred: conductor stringing, special and multi-circuit tower erection, pile foundations at river crossings

Civil Expert (Transmission & Substation)

  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Civil Engineering
  • Preferably 10 years designing, quality monitoring and supervising civil foundations for lines and substations from 132 kV up to 220 kV
  • Minimum 3 years under PMC services or a consultant
  • Understanding of HV line clearances and safety; AutoCAD or similar software
  • Knowledge of transmission foundation types, including pile and well foundations

Procurement & Contract Expert

  • Post-graduate degree in Engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years managing procurement and contracts for transmission lines and substations up to 220 kV
  • Minimum 3 years under PMC services on an externally aided project
  • Working knowledge of externally aided project procurement guidelines
  • Preferred: procurement certification from an MDB

Sr. Environmental Safeguard Expert

  • Master's in Environmental Science, Management or Engineering (or similar)
  • 10 years preparing and implementing EIA/ESIA and EMP/ESMP for linear infrastructure
  • Conversant with Government of India Environmental Codes of Practice and MDB environmental and social policies
  • At least two externally aided projects totalling 5+ years
  • Minimum 5 years under PMC services; energy infrastructure experience is an advantage

Sr. Social Safeguard Expert

  • Master's in Social Science, Social Work or Social Management (or similar)
  • 10 years in social assessments, Resettlement Action Plans, Tribal Development Plans and livelihood restoration for linear infrastructure
  • Conversant with Government of India and MDB social policies
  • At least two externally aided projects totalling 5+ years
  • Minimum 5 years under PMC services; energy infrastructure experience is an advantage

Occupational, Health & Safety Officer

  • Degree or PG Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or Industrial Safety
  • 5 years in OHS management
  • At least 3 years with safety policies of MDB-funded linear infrastructure projects
  • PMC or consultant experience is an added advantage (not mandatory)

Environmental Investigation Officer (3 Seats)

  • M.Sc. in Environmental Science or a relevant field
  • 2 years on environmental aspects of 132 kV / 220 kV line and substation construction
  • Preferred: MDB-funded project experience

Project Accountant

  • B.Com. from a recognised institution
  • 2 years accounting for power transmission and distribution infrastructure projects
  • Preferred: MDB-funded project experience

Office Assistant

  • Any graduate degree from a recognised institution
  • 2 years assisting office work on power transmission and distribution projects

Watch the Voltage Class: For the Indian Transmission Expert, line experience below 220 kV does not satisfy the core requirement, however many years you have. The Civil Expert and Environmental Investigation Officer posts accept 132 kV experience; the Transmission Expert does not.

For a post-by-post qualification matrix, a breakdown of which conditions are mandatory versus "preferred", and guidance on proving PMC and externally aided project experience, read our WAPCOS Power T&D Experts Eligibility Criteria 2026 guide.

6. Eligibility for Overseas (Africa) Project Posts

The 17 overseas posts require a relevant degree plus between 5 and 15 years of experience, and most also demand a minimum number of similar projects completed within a recent window — typically the last seven or ten years. Reading the posts together, they appear to fall into distinct project groups, each with its own vocabulary and conditions. The grouping below is our interpretation to help you navigate; WAPCOS has not labelled the groups itself.

S. No.PostQualificationCore ExperienceRecent-Project Condition
Group A — Distribution refurbishment and last-mile connections

17Distribution Protection and Control Design Engineer (2 seats)B.Sc./B.Tech, Electrical, Power Systems or related6 years in distribution design, planning and supervision plus testing and commissioning of equipmentExperience in substation/distribution protection and control

"Within the last seven years" is a hard filter: For Groups A and B, a solar plant you supervised in 2017 or a substation you commissioned in 2018 may not count, even if it fits the scale. List each qualifying project in your CV with its start and end dates, capacity or voltage, funding agency and your role, so the screener can tick each condition without guessing.

7. Which WAPCOS Post Fits Your Years of Experience?

The 26 posts sit on eight experience thresholds, from 2 years to 15 years. Reading this ladder from your own experience level upward is the fastest way to shortlist the posts worth applying for. The table counts minimum years only; each post's other conditions still apply.

Minimum ExperiencePosts (Project)Minimum QualificationSeats
2 yearsEnvironmental Investigation Officer (India); Project Accountant (India); Office Assistant (India)M.Sc. / B.Com. / Any Graduate5
5 yearsOccupational, Health & Safety Officer (India); Social and Gender Specialist (Africa)Degree or PG Diploma in OHS / Diploma in Social Sciences2
6 yearsHSE Expert; Social Expert; Distribution Protection and Control Design Engineer (all Africa)Bachelor's degree4
7 yearsCivil Engineer, Solar Power Plant (Africa)Bachelor's, Civil1

12 yearsRenewable Energy Engineer (BESS); Solar Power Plant Expert (Africa)Master's, Renewable Energy2
15 yearsProject Manager No. 8; General Site Supervisor; Resident Project Manager (Africa)Bachelor's / Master's / B.Sc., Electrical3
Total29

Two patterns stand out. First, 10 of the 29 seats sit at exactly 10 years, making that the most competitive band for mid-career electrical, civil and safeguard professionals. Second, the 5 seats at the 2-year level are open to early-career M.Sc. environmental graduates, commerce graduates and administrative staff — but only if their two years were spent on power transmission and distribution projects, not in general accounting or office work.

Pro Tip for Early-Career Applicants: If you have worked for a T&D contractor, a state transmission utility or a consulting firm on a substation or line project, frame your two years around that project — name the voltage level, the client and the tasks you handled. Generic "accounts executive" or "office assistant" experience without the power-sector link does not meet the condition.

8. Decoding the Notification's Technical Terms

Several eligibility conditions in this notification hinge on acronyms and terms that come from lender documentation and French electrical standards. Understanding them precisely tells you whether your experience counts. The definitions below are standard industry meanings; where we infer something about the project from the wording, we say so.

TermMeaningWhy It Matters for Eligibility
HTA (Haute Tension A)French voltage class for AC networks above 1 kV and up to 50 kV — the medium-voltage distribution rangeUsed in the solar and BESS posts. Experience connecting a plant to an 11 kV, 22 kV or 33 kV grid falls in this range
HTB (Haute Tension B)French voltage class for AC networks above 50 kV — the high-voltage transmission rangeA plant evacuating power at 66 kV, 132 kV or 220 kV is HTB-connected
MWc (megawatt-crête)French term for peak DC capacity of a PV plant; the same as MWpA "20 MWc plant" means 20 MWp of installed modules — state your plants in MWp to show the match
BESSBattery Energy Storage SystemThe BESS Specialist post needs supervision of plants with at least 20 MWh of storage — energy (MWh), not power (MW)
PMCProject Management Consultant — the firm supervising contractors on the owner's behalfSeveral posts need 3 or 5 years specifically in a consultant/PMC role; contractor-side or owner-side experience may not count
MDBMultilateral Development Bank, such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank or African Development BankExternally aided project experience and MDB policy knowledge are mandatory for the senior Indian safeguard and procurement posts
IFIInternational Financial (or Funding) Institution — a broader term including MDBs and bilateral lendersRequired for the Portuguese-speaking Group D posts (Project Manager No. 8, Distribution Engineer, General Site Supervisor)
IFC Performance StandardsThe International Finance Corporation's environmental and social standards for private-sector projectsListed as an asset for the solar and BESS experts
EIA / ESIAEnvironmental (and Social) Impact AssessmentCore work product for the Sr. Environmental Safeguard Expert
EMP / ESMPEnvironmental (and Social) Management Plan — the implementation plan that follows an assessmentBoth preparation and implementation experience are required
RAPResettlement Action Plan for people affected by land acquisition or right-of-wayCore work product for the Sr. Social Safeguard Expert
GRMGrievance Redress Mechanism for project-affected communitiesRequired experience for the Social and Gender Specialist
GBVGender-Based Violence risk assessment and mitigation on civil worksAn asset for the Social and Gender Specialist
Linear infrastructureLong, narrow assets such as transmission lines, roads, railways and pipelinesSafeguard experience must come from linear projects, not single-site factories or buildings
Last-mile connectionThe final link from the distribution network to individual households or consumersCentral to Group A posts and to the Distribution Engineer's household-connection requirement

Our Reading: The use of French terms (HTA, HTB, MWc) in the solar and BESS posts suggests that the underlying terms of reference were drafted in French, which is common for projects in Francophone African countries. The notification does not name the country, so treat this as context rather than a confirmed fact. French is not listed as a requirement for these posts.

9. Language, Region and Funding-Agency Requirements

Four overseas posts require fluency or proficiency in Portuguese together with prior work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, and six more require good working knowledge of English. These language conditions are mandatory and are likely to be the single biggest filter for Indian applicants on the overseas side.

Post (Overseas S. No.)Language ConditionRegion ConditionFunding-Agency Condition
Project Manager (8)Fluent Portuguese, working EnglishWorked in Sub-Saharan Africa2 of 3 projects IFI-funded international turnkey
Social and Gender Specialist (9)Portuguese proficiencyProfessional experience in Africa—
Distribution Engineer (10)Fluent Portuguese, working EnglishWorked in Sub-Saharan Africa2 IFI-funded projects
General Site Supervisor (11)Fluent Portuguese, working EnglishWorked in Sub-Saharan Africa2 of 3 contracts IFI-financed
Resident Project Manager (12)Good working EnglishPM on a project in a developing country—
Supervision Coordinators (13, 14)Good working English——
HSE Expert (15)Good working English——
Protection & Control Design Engineer (17)Good working English——

Portuguese is the official language of five African countries (Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde and São Tomé and Príncipe), and Equatorial Guinea also lists it as an official language. The notification does not say which country these posts serve, so do not tailor your CV to a guessed location. Instead, state your Portuguese level honestly — ideally with a recognised certificate or a description of projects where you worked in Portuguese — and list the African countries where you have been posted.

Do Not Overstate Language Skills: "Fluent" is a stated requirement, and shortlisted candidates for Portuguese-speaking roles can expect their language ability to be tested in an interview. Claiming fluency you do not have risks disqualification at a later stage.

10. Age Limit and Crucial Date

The maximum age for engagement under the WAPCOS Power T&D experts advertisement is 67 years, counted as on 1 October 2026. No minimum age is specified, and the notification does not mention any category-wise age relaxation — unsurprising for a consultant engagement where the experience requirements already set a practical floor.

ParameterDetail
Maximum age67 years
Crucial date for age01 October 2026
Clearly within the limitBorn on or after 2 October 1959 (under 67 on the crucial date)
Aged 67 on the crucial dateBorn between 2 October 1958 and 1 October 1959 — generally treated as within a "maximum 67 years" limit, but the notification does not define it; confirm with WAPCOS if you fall here
Minimum ageNot specified
Category-wise relaxationNot mentioned in the notification

The 67-year ceiling is designed for retired and late-career professionals. Engineers retiring from state utilities, central PSUs or consulting firms at 58 to 60 often have exactly the 10–15 years of PMC, MDB and high-voltage experience these posts ask for, which makes this advertisement a realistic second-career option.

11. Salary and Terms of Engagement

WAPCOS has not published a pay scale for these posts. The notification states that remuneration will be commensurate with qualification and experience and will be discussed at the time of engagement. The posts are purely temporary and tied to WAPCOS project requirements.

Terms at a Glance

Pay
Negotiated at engagement
Nature of Post
Temporary, project-term
Place of Posting

Because pay is negotiated, your CV is effectively your opening position. A CV that documents voltage levels, project values, funding agencies and your exact role gives WAPCOS a clear basis to place you at the upper end of whatever range applies to the post. Overseas assignments typically involve separate considerations such as travel, accommodation and allowances, but the notification does not specify any of these — ask about them directly if you are shortlisted.

Note: Some websites publish fixed monthly salary figures for this drive. The official notification contains no pay figure, so treat any specific number as unofficial.

12. Application Fee

The WAPCOS notification No. 5/226/Power/T&D does not mention any application fee. Applications are sent by email, and no payment mode, challan or gateway is described.

CategoryFee
All categoriesNo fee mentioned
Payment modeNot applicable

Fraud Warning: If anyone asks you to pay a "processing", "registration" or "visa" fee to secure one of these WAPCOS posts, treat it as a scam. The official process involves only emailing your CV to the address in the notification.

13. Selection Process

Selection for WAPCOS project-term expert posts is based on CV screening and shortlisting against each post's requirements, with no written examination. The management reserves the right to set additional criteria to limit the number of candidates called, even among those who meet the minimum eligibility.

1
CV Screening

WAPCOS checks each CV for qualification, years of experience as on 1 October 2026, voltage class, project scale, PMC and funding-agency experience, and language conditions where applicable.

2
Shortlisting

Where many candidates qualify, the management may raise the bar — for example, by preferring candidates who meet the "preferred" or "added advantage" conditions.

3
Interaction or Interview

The notification does not describe an interview stage explicitly, but WAPCOS commonly holds a personal interaction for project-term engagements. Be prepared to discuss your listed projects in detail.

4
Engagement Offer and Pay Discussion

Remuneration and place of posting are finalised at this stage, based on your qualifications, experience and the project's needs.

5
Joining and Document Verification

Original certificates and your CV are verified at joining. Serving government, PSU or autonomous-body employees must produce a no-objection or relieving certificate.

14. How to Apply for WAPCOS Expert Posts

To apply, download the WAPCOS CV format from the careers page of wapcos.co.in, fill it in, attach self-attested copies of your supporting documents, and email it to tdp@wapcos.co.in on or before 7 November 2026. Applications in any other format are rejected.

1
Shortlist Your Posts

Use the experience ladder and eligibility tables above to pick only the posts where you meet every mandatory condition as on 1 October 2026.

2
Download the WAPCOS CV Format

Open the careers section of wapcos.co.in and download the prescribed CV proforma published with this advertisement. Do not use your own resume template.

3
Fill the Proforma Project by Project

For each qualifying assignment, give dates, client, funding agency, voltage or plant capacity, your role, and whether you worked for a PMC or consultant. Map each entry to the post's stated conditions.

4
Attach Self-Attested Copies

Scan self-attested photocopies of your date-of-birth proof, degree certificates, experience certificates and category proof, if applicable. Do not send originals.

5
Write a Clear Subject Line

Include the advertisement number, project (India or Overseas), the post's serial number and name, for example: Advt 5/226/Power/T&D — Overseas S. No. 5 — Solar Power Plant Expert.

6
Send Before the Deadline

Email the complete application to tdp@wapcos.co.in on or before 7 November 2026 and keep the sent email as proof of submission.

Pro Tip: If you qualify for more than one post, send a separate email for each post with a tailored CV. A single CV listing several posts makes it harder for screeners handling each post to evaluate you.

Our step-by-step How to Apply for WAPCOS Power T&D Expert Posts 2026 guide walks through filling the WAPCOS CV proforma field by field, writing project entries that match each condition, and preparing the attachments.

15. Common Mistakes That Get CVs Rejected
