1. Introduction: What NaBFID Is Hiring For
The National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) is recruiting one Executive Vice President & Head – Market Risk, ALM & Enterprise Risk on a 5-year fixed-term contract, based in Mumbai. Applications are accepted only by email, from 3 November 2026 to 24 November 2026 (6:00 PM IST), under advertisement number NaBFID/REC/EVP/2026-27/02 and job code NABFID/EVP/16.
This is not an entry-level or mid-career opening. To qualify, a candidate needs at least 20 years in the financial sector, of which at least 5 years must be in risk management at an RBI-regulated entity, and of those, at least 2 years at senior management level. There is no written exam and no application fee. Shortlisting is done on your CV, and the final decision rests on a personal interview, possibly supported by psychometric tests or an assessment centre.
Most job portals reproduce the one-page eligibility table and stop there. This guide goes further. It explains how to read the three-layer experience requirement against your own career, which employers count as "RBI-regulated" for the 5-year risk component, how the age cut-off works in date-of-birth terms, and why asset-liability management is likely to be the hardest part of this job given how NaBFID's loan book is built.
Editorial Note: This article is based on NaBFID's official advertisement dated 3 November 2026 and on NaBFID's own public disclosures and Parliament answers about its business. Where the notification is silent (for example, on the exact salary figure or the definition of "senior management level"), we say so clearly and label our interpretation as guidance, not an official rule. Always confirm with the official advertisement and the detailed job description on the NaBFID careers page before applying. — Vacancy Vedika Editorial Team
2. About NaBFID: The Balance Sheet You Would Oversee
NaBFID is India's development finance institution (DFI) for infrastructure. It was set up under the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development Act, 2021, and is regulated and supervised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as an All-India Financial Institution (AIFI), in the same regulatory family as NABARD, SIDBI, EXIM Bank and NHB. It disbursed its first loan in December 2022, which makes it one of the youngest large lenders in the Indian system. Its risk function is therefore still being built rather than inherited.
Organization Profile
- Full Name: National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development
- Established Under: NaBFID Act, 2021 (Act of Parliament)
- Regulator: Reserve Bank of India (regulated as an All-India Financial Institution)
- Lending Operations Since: December 2022
- Head Office: The Capital, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai – 400051
- Mandate: Long-term infrastructure lending plus development of bond and derivatives markets for infrastructure
- Website: nabfid.org
Why the scale matters for this role
The person hired will set risk limits for a balance sheet that is growing fast. According to NaBFID's provisional business update filed with BSE on 7 April 2026, the bank sanctioned ₹1,33,020 crore of loans in FY 2025-26 (up 31.46% from ₹1,01,189 crore in FY 2024-25) and disbursed ₹74,519 crore (up 93.76% from ₹38,459 crore).
| Metric | FY 2024-25 | FY 2025-26 (Provisional) | Growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loans Sanctioned | ₹1,01,189 crore | ₹1,33,020 crore | 31.46% |
| Loans Disbursed | ₹38,459 crore | ₹74,519 crore | 93.76% |
Source: NaBFID business performance intimation to BSE, 7 April 2026.
The loan book is also unusually long-dated. In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha in March 2025, the Ministry of Finance stated that of 200 projects sanctioned up to 28 February 2025 (₹1,90,111 crore), 195 projects worth ₹1,87,225 crore carried a tenure of more than 10 years. By 31 July 2025, sanctions had reached 232 projects worth ₹2,30,626 crore. Source: Rajya Sabha Unstarred Question 267, 18 March 2025.
That tenure profile is the single most important fact for a Market Risk and ALM head. It is explored in Section 5.
3. Important Dates
The application window is just three weeks long, and the age and eligibility cut-off is the first day of that window, not the last.
| Event | Date |
|---|---|
| Advertisement date | 3 November 2026 |
| Application window opens | 3 November 2026 |
| Cut-off date for age and eligibility | 3 November 2026 |
| Last date and time to email your CV | 24 November 2026, 6:00 PM IST |
| Shortlisting and interview call | To be intimated by email / NaBFID website |
Deadline Alert: The deadline is 6:00 PM IST on 24 November 2026, not midnight. Email timestamps are recorded in the sender's time zone, so candidates applying from overseas should convert carefully and send at least a day early.
4. Vacancy Details & Job Code
There is exactly one post, in the unreserved (UR) category. Because it is a single UR vacancy, there is no category-wise distribution and no reservation-based age relaxation.
| S. No. | Job Code | Position | Grade | Vacancy | Category |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | NABFID/EVP/16 | EVP & Head – Market Risk, ALM & Enterprise Risk | Executive Vice President | 1 | UR |
| Total | 1 | UR | |||
How this role has evolved at NaBFID
The current opening merges responsibilities that NaBFID earlier advertised separately. In its June 2023 EVP advertisement, the bank sought a Head – Risk Management under job code NABFID/EVP/002. In a separate Vice President-level advertisement, it sought a VP – Market, Liquidity and Interest Rate Risk (NABFID/VP/005), focused mainly on treasury operations, stress testing, scenario analysis and the market-risk portion of ICAAP (Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process).
EVP/16 brings market risk, liquidity and ALM together with enterprise-wide risk at EVP grade. In practical terms, the job now covers both the treasury book and the overall risk architecture, which explains the 20-year experience floor.
5. What the Role Actually Involves at a DFI
As stated in the advertisement, the EVP will design and implement NaBFID's enterprise-wide risk framework, keep the portfolio within approved risk limits, build systems to measure risk, and work risk mitigation into how business is done. Each of the three components in the title means something specific at an infrastructure DFI.
| Component | What it covers | Why it is distinctive at NaBFID |
|---|---|---|
| Market Risk | Interest rate risk, FX risk, and price risk on investments and derivatives | NaBFID funds itself heavily through bond issues and has stated plans to raise money through external commercial borrowings, which brings currency and hedging decisions under risk oversight |
| ALM (Asset-Liability Management) | Matching the maturity, repricing and liquidity profile of assets against liabilities | Loans run 10 to 20+ years, while bond funding is usually shorter, creating a structural duration and refinancing gap that has to be managed deliberately |
| Enterprise Risk | Risk appetite, risk governance, the risk register, ICAAP and board-level reporting across credit, market, operational and other risks | As a young institution, NaBFID is still building many of these frameworks rather than maintaining inherited ones |
The ALM problem in plain terms
A commercial bank funds itself mostly through deposits and lends across a range of maturities. NaBFID does not take retail deposits. It lends to roads, renewable power, ports and similar projects for well over a decade, and funds those loans through long-term bonds, borrowings and government capital. As noted in Section 2, almost every project it had sanctioned by February 2025 carried a tenure above 10 years. Whoever heads ALM has to decide how much refinancing risk is acceptable, what liquidity buffers to hold, how to price interest rate risk when assets reset slowly, and how to report all of this to the board and the RBI.
Candidates whose risk experience is mainly in retail or short-tenor corporate lending should be prepared to show, in the CV and at interview, how they would handle long-duration balance sheet risk. This is our editorial reading of the role based on NaBFID's public data; the detailed job description on the NaBFID website is the authoritative statement of responsibilities.
Pro Tip: If you have ever managed IRRBB (interest rate risk in the banking book), liquidity stress testing, an ICAAP submission, or the treasury risk desk at a bank, NBFC or another AIFI, put it in the first half of the first page of your CV, with the size of the book you oversaw in ₹ crore.
6. Eligibility Criteria: The Nested Experience Rule
To be eligible, you need a graduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline, or a Chartered Accountant qualification. In addition, you need three layers of experience, each one contained inside the previous one, all measured as on 3 November 2026. The experience rule, not the degree, is where most applicants are filtered out.
Educational Qualification (Essential)
- Graduate or Postgraduate in any discipline from a recognised University or Institution, or
- Chartered Accountant (the advertisement prints "Chartered Account", which is evidently a typographical error)
Preferred Certifications
- Financial Risk Manager (FRM) certification from GARP (Global Association of Risk Professionals), or
- Professional Risk Manager (PRM) certification from the PRMIA (PRIMA) Institute
- Preferred, not mandatory: candidates without these can still apply
Experience (Essential)
- Minimum 20 years in the financial sector
- Within that, minimum 5 years in a risk management function at an RBI-regulated entity
- Within those 5 years, minimum 2 years at senior management level
- Preferred: experience in the infrastructure domain
Decoding the three experience layers
The phrase "of which" in the notification means each layer sits inside the one above it. Years in a risk function outside an RBI-regulated entity count towards the 20-year total but not towards the 5-year risk layer.
| Layer | Minimum | What counts | What does not count |
|---|---|---|---|
| Layer 1: Financial sector | 20 years | Banking, NBFCs, financial institutions, insurance, capital markets, asset management and similar financial services | Non-financial corporate roles (unless the notification or JD says otherwise) |
| Layer 2: Risk management at an RBI-regulated entity | 5 of the 20 years | A risk management function (market, liquidity, credit, ERM, ALM, etc.) at an entity regulated by RBI | Risk roles at insurers (IRDAI-regulated), mutual funds or brokers (SEBI-regulated), or consulting firms |
| Layer 3: Senior management | 2 of the 5 years | Senior management level within that RBI-regulated risk function | Junior or mid-level risk roles |
Which employers are "RBI-regulated"?
The advertisement does not list them. The following is our guidance based on RBI's regulatory perimeter, not an official NaBFID list. Entities generally regulated by RBI include:
- scheduled commercial banks (public, private and foreign)
- small finance banks and payments banks
- regional rural banks and urban co-operative banks
- NBFCs, including housing finance companies, which moved from NHB's regulation to RBI's in 2019
- All-India Financial Institutions such as NABARD, SIDBI, EXIM Bank, NHB and NaBFID itself
- asset reconstruction companies
Insurance companies, mutual funds, stock brokers and pension fund managers are regulated by IRDAI, SEBI or PFRDA instead. If your risk years were in one of these, they would count towards Layer 1 but not Layer 2.
What "senior management level" probably means
NaBFID does not define it. In public sector banks, senior management is commonly understood to start at Scale V to VII (Assistant/Deputy General Manager and above). In private banks and NBFCs, it is commonly understood to start at Vice President, Head of Function, or equivalent titles reporting to the CRO or the Board Risk Committee. This is our interpretation. Your CV should show your grade, reporting line and team size, so the screening committee does not have to guess.
Worked example: Suppose a candidate spent 9 years in corporate banking at a private bank, 6 years in market risk at an insurer, and then 6 years in ALM at a public sector bank, the last 3 as Deputy General Manager. That gives 21 years in the financial sector (Layer 1 met), 6 years of risk at an RBI-regulated entity, because the insurer years do not count here (Layer 2 met), and 3 years at senior level (Layer 3 met). The same candidate without the bank ALM stint would fail Layer 2, despite 6 years in risk.
7. Age Limit & Date-of-Birth Cut-off
The upper age limit is 55 years and below as on 3 November 2026, the date of the advertisement. The notification also states that even after any relaxation, the maximum age cannot exceed 55 years. Since this is a single UR post, there is no category-based relaxation. There is no minimum age stated, but the 20-year experience requirement effectively sets one in the early forties.
| Your date of birth | Age on 3 November 2026 | Status |
|---|---|---|
| On or after 4 November 1971 | 54 years or younger | Within the limit |
| 4 November 1970 to 3 November 1971 | 55 years (completed), not yet 56 | Likely within "55 years and below" under common bank practice. Confirm with NaBFID if borderline |
| On or before 3 November 1970 | 56 years or older | Over the limit |
Borderline candidates: Indian bank notifications usually read "not above 55 years" as allowing anyone who has completed 55 but not 56 on the cut-off date. NaBFID's wording, "55 years and below", does not state a date-of-birth range explicitly. If you were born between 4 November 1970 and 3 November 1971, write to the recruitment email address for clarification before investing time in the application.
8. Salary, Contract Term & Posting
NaBFID has not published a salary figure or pay scale for this post. Pay will be fixed individually, based on qualifications, experience, suitability, last drawn salary and market benchmarks. The notification adds that pay "shall not be a limiting factor" for a suitable candidate, which signals that NaBFID is prepared to compete with private-sector pay for the right person.
Engagement Terms
Negotiating when there is no published pay band
Because "last drawn salary" is one of the stated factors, your current CTC becomes the starting point for negotiation. Candidates from public sector banks, whose pay is set by IBA (Indian Banks' Association) settlements, may see a sizeable jump. Candidates from private banks or foreign banks should compare total compensation, not just fixed pay: check whether variable pay, ESOPs, deferred bonuses or notice-period buyouts are being forfeited. Ask for the full CTC structure in writing before accepting.
Note on pension and retirement benefits: As a fixed-term contractual engagement, this post is not covered by a pension scheme in the notification. Candidates currently in government, PSU or PSB service should check how resigning or taking leave to join affects their own pension and superannuation entitlements before moving.
9. Selection Process
Selection is based on your CV and an interview, with no written examination. Meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee an interview call; NaBFID will shortlist only as many candidates as it needs.
Applications are screened against the eligibility criteria and relevant experience. Only a limited number of shortlisted candidates are called forward.
NaBFID may use psychometric tests, an assessment centre or any other method it considers suitable, in addition to the interview.
A committee constituted for the purpose conducts the interview. Final selection weighs eligibility, experience, qualifications and interview performance.
At interview you must disclose any pending criminal cases. NaBFID may run independent checks, including police verification, and can deny engagement based on the results.
Engagement depends on being declared medically fit as per the bank's requirements. You must produce a proper relieving letter from your current employer when you join.
What the interview panel is likely to probe
Based on the role description and NaBFID's balance sheet, expect discussion of:
- how you would set a risk appetite framework for a lender with very long assets
- your approach to liquidity stress testing and contingency funding
- interest rate risk in the banking book
- hedging foreign-currency borrowings
- how you have embedded risk controls into business decisions rather than just reporting on them
Board and regulator interaction will also matter at EVP level. This list is our editorial expectation, not something NaBFID has published.
10. How to Apply by Email
To apply, email your CV with a passport-size photograph to recruitment@nabfid.org, using the exact subject line "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF NABFID/EVP/16", before 6:00 PM IST on 24 November 2026. There is no online form, no portal and no hard-copy route; only Indian citizens may apply.
Download the role description PDF from the NaBFID careers page (linked in Important Links) and map your experience to each responsibility it lists.
Show your financial-sector, RBI-regulated risk and senior-management years separately, with exact from-to dates, employer names, designations and the regulator of each employer.
Embed the photograph in the CV itself, or attach it as a separate image, as the notification requires one with the CV.
Type APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF NABFID/EVP/16 as the subject. The notification says the subject should strictly follow this format, so do not add your name or other words.
All interview calls and updates come by email, so use a personal address that will stay active until results are declared, not a work account you may lose.
If you work in a government, quasi-government or public sector body, including nationalised banks and financial institutions, start the No Objection Certificate request now, because you must produce it at interview.
CV and email checklist
| Item | Requirement | Our recommendation |
|---|---|---|
| Recipient | recruitment@nabfid.org | Copy-paste the address to avoid typos |
| Subject line | APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF <Job Code> | APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF NABFID/EVP/16 (no spaces inside the job code) |
| CV | Required | PDF format, file named with your name and job code |
| Photograph | Passport size, with the CV | Recent, plain background, embedded on page 1 |
| Experience proof | Not stated for the application stage | Keep appointment and experience letters ready for the interview |
| Deadline | 24 November 2026, 6:00 PM IST | Send by 22 November 2026 to leave buffer for bounces |
11. Self-Assessment: Should You Apply?
You should apply if you can answer "yes" to every essential item below. Preferred items strengthen a CV but do not decide eligibility.
| Check | Type | Pass condition |
|---|---|---|
| Indian citizen | Essential | Yes |
| Graduate / Postgraduate / CA | Essential | Degree from a recognised university or institution, or CA |
| 20+ years in financial sector by 3 November 2026 | Essential | Yes |
| 5+ years in risk management at an RBI-regulated entity | Essential | Yes |
| 2+ years of those at senior management level | Essential | Yes |
| Age 55 or below on 3 November 2026 | Essential | Yes (see Section 7 for the borderline year) |
| FRM (GARP) or PRM (PRMIA) | Preferred | Adds weight |
| Infrastructure finance exposure | Preferred | Adds weight |
| Hands-on ALM / market risk (not only credit risk) | Role fit (our view) | Strongly helps, given the post title |
A candidate whose entire risk career has been in credit risk technically meets the eligibility rules but may be at a disadvantage, because two of the three components in the title are market risk and ALM. If that describes you, use your CV to show any treasury, liquidity or ALCO (Asset Liability Committee) exposure you have had.
12. Common Mistakes That Sink Senior Applications
Email-only applications fail for avoidable reasons. These are the most likely ones for this notification.
| Mistake | Consequence | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong or decorated subject line (e.g., adding your name or "EVP Risk") | Email may be missed by subject-based filtering | Use exactly APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF NABFID/EVP/16 |
| Counting insurer or AMC risk years as "RBI-regulated" | Fails the 5-year layer at screening | List each employer's regulator next to its name in the CV |
| Experience shown only as total years | Screener cannot verify the 20/5/2 nesting | Give from-to dates for every role and subtotal each layer |
| No photograph | Application treated as incomplete | Add a passport-size photograph on the CV |
| Applying from an official work email | Interview call lost if you change jobs | Use a personal email that will stay active |
| Sending at the last hour on 24 November | Missed 6:00 PM IST cut-off or bounced email | Send by 22 November and check for a delivery failure notice |
| No NOC at interview (government / PSU / PSB staff) | Candidature may not be considered; travel cost not paid | Apply for NOC as soon as you send your CV |
| Posting hard copies | Not accepted | Email is the only channel |
