1. DVC Executive Trainee Recruitment 2026: What This Drive Is

Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) is recruiting 108 Executive Trainees in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Control & Instrumentation (C&I) and Mining engineering using GATE 2025 marks only — there is no written test and no interview. Online applications run from 6 November 2026 to 6 December 2026 (23:59 hrs) on the DVC website, and selected candidates join at Pay Level-10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500) under a four-year service bond.

The notification (Advt. No. PLR/ET/04/2026/05, dated 6 November 2026) is labelled a Special Drive. That label matters: of the 108 seats, 89 are fresh vacancies and 19 are backlog or previously unfilled seats carried forward from earlier rounds. Electrical engineering alone accounts for 50 posts, nearly half the drive, and this is the largest of the three DVC recruitments run on GATE 2025 marks so far.

This guide goes beyond the notification. We have worked out how many candidates DVC will actually call for document verification in each category, placed the cut-offs from DVC's previous GATE 2025 round in context, calculated an indicative monthly salary at the current 63% dearness allowance, set out the exact birth-date limits for every category, and listed the contradictions between the Hindi and English versions of the notice that could trip up applicants.

Editorial Note: This article is prepared by the Vacancy Vedika Editorial Team from the official DVC notice (Advt. No. PLR/ET/04/2026/05, 20 pages, bilingual). Wherever the Hindi and English text differ, we follow the English version, as the notice's own disclaimer requires. Salary figures, shortlisting counts and birth-date limits marked "estimate" or "indicative" are our calculations from the notice and should be confirmed with DVC. Last updated: 7 November 2026.

Key Takeaway: Your GATE 2025 marks out of 100 in the matching paper (ME, EE, CE, IN or MN) are the only merit factor. GATE 2024 and GATE 2026 marks are not accepted, and you may apply for only one discipline.

2. About Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)

Damodar Valley Corporation is a central government statutory corporation set up in 1948 to develop the Damodar river valley, an area of 24,235 sq km spread across Jharkhand and West Bengal. Unlike most power PSUs, DVC combines electricity generation with flood control, irrigation, water management and soil conservation, which is why its engineering cadre spans thermal, hydel, civil and mining roles.

According to the notice, DVC's installed capacity already exceeds 6,700 MW across thermal, hydel and renewable sources, and the corporation has set itself a target of becoming a 15 GW company by 2030. More than doubling capacity in four years requires engineers at the trainee level now, which explains the scale of this drive and the heavy weight given to Electrical (50 posts) and Civil (26 posts).

Organization Profile

  • Full Name: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC)
  • Established: 1948
  • Command Area: 24,235 sq km in Jharkhand and West Bengal
  • Headquarters: DVC Towers, VIP Road, Kolkata – 700054
  • Core Businesses: Power generation, transmission & distribution, coal mining, water resources management, soil conservation
  • Installed Capacity: 6,700+ MW (thermal, hydel, renewable)
  • Capacity Target: 15 GW by 2030
  • Recruiting Department: Human Resource Department, DVC Towers
  • Website: dvc.gov.in

Selected trainees can be posted at any DVC establishment. In practice that means thermal power stations, hydel stations, transmission and distribution units, coal mining projects or the Kolkata headquarters, most of which lie in the Damodar valley belt of Jharkhand and West Bengal. Candidates who need a metro posting should factor this in before signing the bond.

3. DVC Executive Trainee 2026 Important Dates

4. DVC ET 2026 Vacancy Details: 108 Posts by Discipline and Category

DVC has notified 108 Executive Trainee posts across five disciplines: Electrical 50, Civil 26, Mechanical 17, C&I 12 and Mining 3. The table below separates fresh seats from backlog seats, because backlog seats can only be filled by the category they belong to.

B = backlog vacancy. The figures in brackets show fresh + backlog seats as given in Table-A of the notice.

What the numbers tell you

  • Reserved seats outnumber unreserved ones. Only 48 of 108 seats (44%) are UR; 60 seats go to OBC, SC, ST and EWS candidates.
  • SC candidates get an unusually large share. With 24 SC seats (22% of the drive), and 9 of 26 Civil seats reserved for SC, SC Civil graduates face proportionally less competition here than in most PSU drives.
  • OBC seats are mostly backlog. 11 of the 18 OBC seats are backlog. Mechanical and Civil have no fresh OBC seat at all — every OBC seat in those two branches is a carried-forward vacancy.
  • ST candidates in C&I have no reserved seat. An ST candidate applying for C&I competes against the UR list, which has consequences for age relaxation (see Section 7).
  • Mining is entirely unreserved. All 3 Mining seats are UR seats that went unfilled earlier, and the PwBD horizontal reservation does not apply to Mining.

PwBD horizontal reservation (8 seats)

Eight vacancies are reserved horizontally for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities across Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and C&I (not Mining). A PwBD candidate selected against these seats is adjusted within their own vertical category (UR, OBC, SC, ST or EWS).

Benchmark Disability CategorySeats
(a) Blindness and low vision1
(b) Deaf and hard of hearing2
(c) Locomotor disability (incl. cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims, muscular dystrophy)3
(d)/(e) Autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability, mental illness, and multiple disabilities including deaf-blindness2
Total PwBD (horizontal)8

The notice does not say how the 8 PwBD seats are split between the four eligible disciplines. DVC also states that the projected vacancies may rise or fall depending on its requirements.

We have prepared a DVC Executive Trainee 2026 vacancy breakdown that traces which of the 19 backlog seats came from earlier rounds and shows the seat-to-applicant pressure in each of the 5 disciplines.

5. How Many Candidates Will DVC Call for Document Verification?

DVC will call at least 540 candidates for Document Verification (DV) in this drive — five for every vacancy, counted separately for each category within each discipline. Candidates tied on the last qualifying mark are all called, so the real figure will be slightly higher.

The notice fixes the shortlisting ratio at 1:5 or more, category-wise and discipline-wise, on the basis of GATE 2025 marks out of 100. Applying that ratio to Table-A gives the minimum DV call list below. This is the number your GATE marks must place you within — not the total number of applicants.

Source: our calculation from Table-A of the notice at the stated 1:5 ratio. DVC reserves the right to raise or lower the ratio, so treat these as indicative.

Why this matters more than the vacancy count

Look at the smallest cells. A UR Mining candidate must rank in the top 15 UR applicants for that paper; an ST Civil candidate must be in the top 5 ST applicants for Civil. By contrast, the Electrical UR list will run to roughly 115 names, giving a much wider band of GATE marks a real chance. If your GATE 2025 rank was average, Electrical is where the arithmetic is kindest.

Being shortlisted is not selection. Each DV list is five times the seats, so on average four out of five candidates called for DV will not get an offer. Final merit is again decided purely on GATE 2025 marks, with the older candidate placed first in a tie.

Key Takeaway: The earlier DVC round in December 2025 shortlisted at roughly 1:10. This round uses 1:5, so the mark needed just to reach DV is likely to be higher than last time for the same category.

6. DVC Executive Trainee Eligibility Criteria 2026

To be eligible you need three things that must all line up: a full-time B.E./B.Tech in one of the listed branches, the required aggregate percentage, and a qualifying score in the matching GATE 2025 paper. A mismatch in any one of the three makes you ineligible, even if the other two are strong.

The CGPA conversion trap

The 65% must be calculated using your own university's conversion formula. Only if your university has no formula does DVC divide your CGPA by the maximum CGPA and multiply by 100. This difference can decide eligibility. Take a Gen/OBC/EWS candidate with a CGPA of 6.8 out of 10: by simple division that is 68% and eligible, but under a formula such as (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, which some universities use, it becomes 60.5% and ineligible. Check your university's official rule and carry the certificate stating it to DV.

Other conditions

  • The degree must be full-time and from an Indian university or institute approved by AICTE or the appropriate statutory authority. Bring an AICTE approval print-out showing your college and course, or equivalent proof from your institution.
  • You must have appeared and qualified in the matching GATE 2025 paper; qualifying marks are those declared by the GATE 2025 organising institute.
  • Only Indian nationals can apply.
  • DVC departmental candidates have no upper age limit but must also qualify the matching GATE 2025 paper.
  • A candidate may apply for only one post/discipline.

Power Engineering graduates: Power Engineering appears in both the Mechanical (ME) and Electrical (EE) lists. Your discipline is decided by the GATE 2025 paper you actually wrote. If you wrote ME, apply for Mechanical; if you wrote EE, apply for Electrical. You cannot apply for both.

For the full branch-by-branch qualification matrix, AICTE approval proof and GATE paper rules in one place, see our DVC Executive Trainee Eligibility Criteria 2026 guide, which also works through CGPA conversion examples for common university formulas.

7. DVC ET Age Limit 2026 and Category-Wise Relaxation

The upper age limit is 29 years for unreserved candidates, counted on the closing date of 6 December 2026. OBC (NCL) candidates get 3 extra years, SC/ST candidates 5, and PwBD candidates between 10 and 15 depending on category. There is no upper age limit for DVC departmental candidates.

*Indicative dates calculated by Vacancy Vedika from the 6 December 2026 crucial date. Candidates born in the 12 months before each date (for example, UR candidates born between 7 December 1996 and 6 December 1997) are 29 in completed years on the closing date; the notice does not state how DVC treats this band, so confirm with the eligibility helpline before paying the fee.

The "subject to respective vacancy" rule

The notice adds a condition many applicants overlook: age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC (NCL) and PwBD candidates applies subject to the respective vacancy. Under Government of India practice, a reserved-category candidate who competes for an unreserved seat does not get age relaxation. Applied to this drive:

  • An ST candidate applying for C&I has no ST seat to compete for, so the 29-year UR limit is the safe assumption.
  • OBC, SC and ST candidates applying for Mining face only UR seats, so the same applies.
  • PwBD relaxation does not extend to Mining, because the PwBD reservation excludes the Mining post.

Warning: If you are over 29 and your category has zero seats in the discipline you plan to apply for, your application is likely to fail at DV. The ₹300 fee is non-refundable, so check the vacancy table before paying.

Our DVC Executive Trainee Age Relaxation 2026 guide explains cumulative PwBD relaxation, the J&K domicile certificate format and how Ex-Servicemen service is counted against the 29-year limit.

8. DVC Executive Trainee Salary 2026: Pay Scale and Estimated Monthly Pay

A DVC Executive Trainee starts at a basic pay of ₹56,100 in Pay Matrix Level-10 (7th CPC, M2 grade), with a scale running up to ₹1,77,500. At the current central dearness allowance of 63%, our estimate of gross monthly pay is roughly ₹97,000 to ₹1,08,000, depending on where you are posted.

Pay Structure

Pay Scale
₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500
Starting Basic

Post After Probation
Assistant Manager (same scale)

Indicative monthly pay at 63% DA (our estimate)

The Union Cabinet raised central dearness allowance from 60% to 63% with effect from 1 July 2026. DVC's notice says its compensation includes Central DA (CDA) and HRA as per corporation rules. Using the central HRA slabs that apply once DA crosses 50% (30% / 20% / 10% of basic for X / Y / Z class cities), the starting pay works out as follows:

ComponentX-class city (e.g. Kolkata HQ)Y-class cityZ-class town
Basic Pay₹56,100₹56,100₹56,100
Dearness Allowance (63%)₹35,343₹35,343₹35,343

Estimated Gross (before deductions)₹1,08,273₹1,02,663₹97,053
Less: NPS employee share (10% of Basic + DA)₹9,144₹9,144₹9,144
Estimated pay before income tax₹99,129₹93,519₹87,909

These are indicative figures for the starting basic. They exclude conveyance allowance, medical reimbursement, leave travel allowance and leave encashment (all listed in the notice), and do not deduct income tax or state professional tax. If you live in a DVC township quarter, HRA is normally not paid, which brings the figure closer to the Z-class column.

What the package includes

  • Basic pay and Central Dearness Allowance (CDA)
  • House Rent Allowance
  • Medical reimbursement and Leave Travel Allowance
  • National Pension System (NPS)
  • Conveyance allowance and leave encashment

Pension Note: DVC trainees are covered by the National Pension System, which is contribution-based. There is no old-style defined-benefit pension for new entrants.

Want to see how annual increments, DA revisions and the move to Assistant Manager change take-home pay over the first four years? Read our DVC Executive Trainee Salary 2026 breakdown with city-wise HRA tables.

9. DVC Service Agreement Bond: What the ₹5 Lakh Bond Means

Every selected trainee must sign a service agreement bond covering the one-year probation plus at least three years of service after it — four years in total. Leaving before that means paying the bond amount plus interest.

CategoryBond AmountEquivalent to (approx.)
General / OBC (NCL) / EWS₹5,00,000 + applicable interestAbout 4.6 months of estimated gross pay (X-class city)
SC / ST / PwBD₹2,50,000 + applicable interestAbout 2.3 months of estimated gross pay (X-class city)

The "months of pay" comparison is our estimate using the ₹1,08,273 gross figure from Section 8.

A quick decision checklist before you apply

  • Are you preparing for GATE 2026/2027, ESE or a higher-paying Maharatna PSU? If an offer elsewhere is likely within four years, budget for the bond.
  • Are you comfortable with a posting in a power-station or mining township in Jharkhand or West Bengal rather than a metro?
  • Are you planning an M.Tech? A four-year commitment usually rules out a full-time postgraduate programme during that period.
  • If you are in government or PSU service now, can you get a No Objection Certificate from your employer in time for DV?

10. DVC ET Application Fee 2026

General, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates pay a non-refundable fee of ₹300 online; SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and DVC departmental candidates pay nothing. There is no fee concession for women.

CategoryFeePayment Mode

  • The full ₹300 must be paid in a single transaction; a smaller amount is not accepted.
  • The fee link appears after you submit the online form — the form comes first, then payment.
  • Download and keep the e-receipt; it is one of the documents checked at DV.
  • The fee is not refunded in any circumstance, including if you are later found ineligible.

11. DVC Executive Trainee Selection Process 2026

Selection has no exam or interview of DVC's own: candidates are ranked on GATE 2025 marks out of 100 in the matching paper, verified at Document Verification, and cleared by a pre-employment medical before joining.

1
Online application screening

Applications are checked for the matching GATE 2025 paper, degree discipline, percentage, age and category on the cut-off date of 6 December 2026.

2
Shortlisting on GATE 2025 marks

Candidates are ranked by GATE 2025 marks out of 100 and called for DV at a ratio of 1:5 or more per category in each discipline. Everyone tied on the last mark is called. Qualifying GATE alone does not guarantee a DV call.

3
Document Verification (DV)

The list, date, time and venue are posted only on the DVC website; no call letter is posted or emailed separately. Identity is checked against the photo on your GATE 2025 admit card and scorecard. Eligibility is confirmed only after DV.

4
Final merit list

Merit is again based on GATE 2025 marks. If two or more candidates have equal marks, the older candidate is placed higher.

5
Pre-employment medical examination

Conducted by the DVC Medical Board. Its decision is final and no relaxation in health standards is allowed.

6
Joining, probation and absorption

Trainees serve one year of probation in Level-10 and, on successful completion, are absorbed as Assistant Manager in the same scale, subject to the service bond.

Marks, not score: DVC ranks on GATE marks out of 100, not the GATE score out of 1,000. For papers held in more than one session, check which figure on your scorecard is shown as marks out of 100 and enter exactly that value.

For a stage-by-stage walkthrough of shortlisting, DV-day identity checks and the tie-break rule with worked examples, read our DVC Executive Trainee Selection Process 2026 guide.

12. Previous DVC GATE 2025 Cut-offs and Competition Outlook

The best guide to this drive's cut-offs is DVC's previous GATE 2025 round: in January 2026 it called OBC Mechanical candidates for DV from 73.67 marks, OBC Electrical from 51.00, and OBC C&I from just 24.00. No UR cut-off exists from that round because it filled reserved backlog seats only.

The figures below are the DV shortlisting cut-offs for DVC's backlog special drive (54 posts, applications in November–December 2025), as reported by Physics Wallah from DVC's January 2026 shortlisting notice.

DisciplineOBC (NCL)SCSTCandidates ShortlistedPosts in That Drive
Mechanical (ME)73.6758.0050.6722221
Electrical (EE)51.0040.3330.3318017
Civil (CE)65.1750.7173.3616611
C&I (IN)24.0019.0017.00415

Cut-offs are GATE 2025 marks out of 100 for the DV call, not final selection. The Civil ST figure being higher than Civil OBC is as reported; it most likely reflects very few ST seats and is worth verifying against DVC's original notice.

How to read these numbers for the current drive

  • The ratio has halved. The January 2026 list was drawn at about 1:10; this drive uses 1:5. With the same applicant pool, the mark needed for a DV call rises.
  • Mechanical is the toughest branch. An OBC cut-off of 73.67 at 1:10 means UR Mechanical aspirants should expect to need marks clearly above that level now that only 35 UR names will be called.
  • Electrical has the widest door. With 50 posts and a 115-name UR list, mid-range EE scorers have a realistic chance.
  • C&I is under-applied. Only 41 candidates were shortlisted for 5 posts last time — fewer than a full 1:10 list — and cut-offs sat in the high teens to mid-twenties. IN-paper candidates with modest marks should not rule themselves out.
  • Mining is the narrowest. Only 15 UR candidates will be called, so only strong MN scorers should expect a DV call.

Key Takeaway: Previous cut-offs come from a reserved-only round at a looser 1:10 ratio. Use them as a floor, not a target — this drive's cut-offs are likely to be higher in every category.

13. How This Drive Compares with Earlier DVC GATE Recruitments

This is DVC's third recruitment based on GATE 2025 in about a year, and the largest of the three. Seeing the sequence helps explain the backlog seats and why the notice still contains wording from earlier drives.

Details of earlier drives are compiled from published recruitment coverage; the current row is from the official notice.

What we read into it

  • Interviews have been dropped. The 2024 recruitment reportedly included an interview; all GATE 2025 drives rely on marks and DV alone.
  • The 3 "unfilled" Mining seats most likely come from the 8-seat Mining recruitment of March–April 2026 — our inference, as the notice does not say so.
  • The 16 reserved backlog seats in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and C&I are likely seats the December 2025 backlog drive could not fill.
  • GATE 2026 holders are excluded even though GATE 2026 results were declared months before this notice. Candidates with only a GATE 2026 score must wait for a future DVC notice.

14. How to Apply for DVC Executive Trainee 2026

Prescribed GoI formats for caste, income & asset and disability certificates are given as Annexures 1 to 4 on the DVC website. OBC candidates in the creamy layer must apply as General.

16. Medical Fitness Standards

Before joining, every selected candidate undergoes a pre-employment medical examination by the DVC Medical Board. The board's decision is final and binding, and the notice states plainly that no relaxation in health standards is allowed. The notice does not publish detailed standards, so candidates with a known condition affecting vision, hearing or mobility should seek clarification early. PwBD candidates selected against the PwBD seats are assessed in line with their certified disability.

17. Errors and Contradictions in the DVC ET 2026 Notice

The bilingual notice contains at least six places where the Hindi text, or carried-over wording, does not match the English text. The notice's own disclaimer says the English version prevails, so rely on the right-hand column below.

WhereWhat the notice saysWhat to rely on
PwBD seat break-up (page 3)Hindi marks "blindness & low vision" and "deaf & hard of hearing" as शून्य (zero)English: 1 and 2 seats. Only these figures add up to the stated total of 8.
DV document list (page 15)Hindi asks for an original "NET-June 2025" scorecardEnglish: original GATE 2025 scorecard
Instruction (ix) (page 13)Hindi refers to a scorecard from the UGC-NET authorityEnglish: GATE 2025 scorecard from the GATE authority
Table-C, row 5 (page 6)Hindi labels the Mining post as "(विद्युत)" — ElectricalPost 2026/11 is Executive Trainee (Mining)
PwBD eligibility clause (page 7)Says the PwBD criteria apply "for only ET-IT post"There is no IT post in this notice; the PwBD reservation on page 3 covers Mech, Elec, Civil and C&I. The wording appears carried over from the March 2026 IT/Mining/Chemical drive.
Final-semester clause (page 14)Allows candidates in their 2025 final semester with results awaited to applyApplies only if your result is genuinely pending; you must still show a provisional or final degree at DV.
C&I qualification (pages 5–6)Table-B lists "Instrumentation Engineering"; Table-C omits plain InstrumentationGraduates with a degree titled only "Instrumentation Engineering" should email DVC for written confirmation before applying.

If any of these affects you, raise it with DVC's eligibility helpline or the recruitment email (listed in Important Links) and keep the reply for DV.

18. Common Mistakes That Lead to Rejection

The online form accepts whatever you enter, so most eligibility errors surface only at Document Verification — after the fee is paid and cannot be refunded. These are the errors most relevant to this notice.

20. Frequently Asked Questions

Below are the most commonly asked questions about the DVC Executive Trainee 2026 recruitment. If your question is not answered here, refer to the official notification or the recruitment section of the DVC website.

DVC Executive Trainee 2026 — 108 Vacancies Apply Online

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

DVC has notified 108 Executive Trainee posts: Electrical 50, Civil 26, Mechanical 17, C&I 12 and Mining 3. Of these, 89 are fresh vacancies and 19 are backlog or previously unfilled seats. Category-wise, there are 48 UR, 18 OBC (NCL), 24 SC, 8 ST and 10 EWS seats, plus 8 horizontal PwBD seats (not for Mining).

The online application closes on 6 December 2026 at 23:59 hrs. The fee must also be paid by 6 December 2026, and an application is treated as complete only after payment, so apply a few days early.

No. Only GATE 2025 marks out of 100 in the matching paper (ME, EE, CE, IN or MN) are accepted. GATE 2024 or earlier and GATE 2026 scores cannot be used for this advertisement (Advt. No. PLR/ET/04/2026/05).

No. Candidates are shortlisted on GATE 2025 marks at a ratio of 1:5 per category in each discipline, then called for Document Verification. The final merit list is again based on GATE 2025 marks, followed by a pre-employment medical examination by the DVC Medical Board. In a tie, the older candidate ranks higher.

At the stated 1:5 ratio, DVC will call at least 540 candidates across the 108 seats: about 250 for Electrical, 130 for Civil, 85 for Mechanical, 60 for C&I and 15 for Mining. Candidates tied on the last mark are also called, and DVC can change the ratio.

In DVC's backlog drive shortlisted in January 2026 (about 1:10 ratio), reported DV cut-offs included Mechanical OBC 73.67, Electrical OBC 51.00, Civil OBC 65.17 and C&I OBC 24.00 (GATE 2025 marks out of 100). Because this drive uses a tighter 1:5 ratio, cut-offs are likely to be higher. See the cut-off table in the article for SC and ST figures.

Executive Trainees are placed in Pay Level-10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500), M2 grade. At 63% DA, our estimate of starting gross pay is about ₹97,000 to ₹1,08,000 per month depending on the HRA class of the posting, before tax and NPS. After one year of probation, trainees are absorbed as Assistant Manager in the same scale.

The upper age limit is 29 years for UR/EWS as on 6 December 2026, with relaxation of 3 years for OBC (NCL), 5 years for SC/ST and 10–15 years for PwBD. Relaxation applies only where your category has a vacancy in that discipline, and there is no upper age limit for DVC departmental candidates.

A full-time B.E./B.Tech in the relevant branch with at least 65% aggregate for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS and 60% for SC/ST/PwBD. If your degree uses CGPA, apply your own university's conversion formula; only if it has none does DVC divide CGPA by the maximum CGPA and multiply by 100.

Selected candidates sign a bond to complete one year of probation and serve at least three more years (four years in total). The bond amount is ₹5,00,000 for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS and ₹2,50,000 for SC/ST/PwBD, plus applicable interest.

General, OBC (NCL) and EWS candidates pay a non-refundable fee of ₹300 online in one transaction. SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and DVC departmental candidates are exempt. There is no separate exemption for women.

No. A candidate can apply for only one post/discipline. Power Engineering graduates, whose branch appears under both Mechanical and Electrical, should apply for the post that matches the GATE 2025 paper they actually wrote (ME or EE).
